So my local FFL has Marlin model 43 12gauge pump action shotgun for 200$.
I don't need a new gun but I have nothing with wood on it and I do like the look of it.
According to him its mechanically sound. The stock needs a bit of love but that's not really my concern.

I know next to nothing about the Marlin 43 but I do know Marlin released a service bulletin some years back cautioning people to not use their old hammerless and hammer pump action shotguns.
Is this gun "safe" to shoot?
Would you shoot it?

What I,ve seen and read is not to use the early hammer guns. The bolt lock up can fail and the bolt comes out the back of the receiver in your face. The 43 from what I can see is hammerless and the bolt contained by the receiver. I don't know if it's safe to use with light loads. You might want to go to one of the Marlin sites and ask. I wouldn't buy it until you know if you want a shooter. Good luck.
