Is this scope defective?

Hopefully third times the charm....
I just mounted my 4x .22 mag on one of my airguns. That one seems to be working fine, so again I probably lucked out.

LOL! That's exactly what I said to the cashier while I was checking out. Now that the weather has turned worse now and is expected to stay that way for more than a week, I don't know if I'll have the chance to get out and try it again before the 30 day return period is up on Monday. Supposedly, Gander Mountain has a "90 day satisfaction guarantee" which would give me a couple more months, but they refused to give me a refund even within the first 30 days last time, even though they offered me a refund the first time. At best, I might end up with store credit if this scope messes up. In that case, I'll have no choice but to look for stuff I might be able to use equaling the amount of the scope. Beyond that, I don't think I'd try putting another scope on my rifle.

What brand of scope did you put on your airgun? Tell me it wasn't a Simmons! Ugh!!!

Lol, yeah it was a Simmons....the fixed power variant of the one giving you grief. If that scope dosent work out lemme know ive got one of the cabellas .22 scopes that im not using, you can have that one. Adjustments arnt real precise but its stayed sighted with no other issues.

Thanks, but you might want to hang onto your Cabella scope, just in case. It seems like scopes (based on the luck I've been having with Simmons) can just quit working for any reason, or even no reason. In the case of my first 2 attempts, they didn't even survive removal from their packaging. I actually have the fixed 4x version now. The first one I got was 3-9x, but the zoom adjustment was so hard to turn, and I heard that a fixed power scope might be less likely to have problems. So when I did the first exchange, I swapped for a 4x. When that one was also no good, I still swapped for a 4x just to keep things simple at the checkout.
Also, from what I've heard about scopes used on airguns, those guns can be deadly for scopes. I suppose you've heard about how airguns mechanisms work differently than on a firearm and aren't scope-friendly. If your Simmons survives an airgun, it's a keeper!

That .22 mag scopes actualy survived a couple springer airguns, tho not extended shooting. Ive got it on my crossman 1322 carbine which, since its a pumper, recoils like a normal firearm. Mine is older also, might have been better built in the mid 2ks.

I also have a simmoms prosport 3-12x40 on my Qb78 thats kinda falling apart but still holding zero. This ones only about 3 years old, power ring was almost impossible to turn, it broke and its got a pipe clamp on there now lol.

The prosport seems to be pretty much in the price range of what I have, which is encouraging. If mine actually stays functional, it might actually last for awhile. I sure hope so, because I just heard yesterday that our Gander Mountain where I bought it will be going out of business within the next few weeks. It's one of 32 that are closing. Maybe it's because of me returning so many garbage Simmons scopes! :D

The problem with cheap scopes, besides the glass, is the plastic adjustment parts inside. Sorry or later they will give up. Even if you don't adjust the scope. Do your self a favor and stay away from cheap scopes. One might accidently never break but the odds are not good. The cheapest I would get is 100 plus Weaver or Redfield. If you insist on cheap, an air rifle rated scope might be better if you can see through it. I have Winchester Air Rifle scopes on some air rifles that seem ok but I would only use them on an air rifle.
