I ordered a Charter Arms Pit Bull 45 ACP back in January . My LGS called about an hour ago and told me it had arrived. Looks like I'll be buying a new toy tomorrow. BUT This being NYS there is paper work to do,a trip to the county clerks office, after which I have to wait to get a court date, another trip to the court house for approval by the judge , then waiting for the county clerk to send my approval letter, then back to the clerks office to pick up the actual approved amendment for my permit. Then back to the GS to pick it up. So it could be another month before I actually have it in my hands. After which I will let you guys know how it does at the range. Hooo boy we're all much safer here in NYS .

I am sorry to hear of all the hoops you have to negotiate in NYS - hopefully the northern part of the state will be able to replace some of the politicians that got you into this mess. I look forward to hearing of your first test drive with the new Pitbull - I've been considering possibly getting one myself.

Just plain insane. I could never understand why the NY laws, including the Sullivan Act, weren't challenged and ruled infringements.

Glad that you finally got it…. Sort of.

Also glad I’m in a free state. Fill out the 4473, hand the shop my money, they hand me the gun and I leave.

Amen. Here in KY if you hold a concealed carry permit they run background on you periodically, and that makes a person eligible for immediate approval. With my 10mm the shop owner just checked to ensure my permit was valid and handed me my reciept.

It's truly sad (and well beyond ridiculous), that you have to jump through so many bureaucratic hoops just to exercise your 2nd Amendment right. Will look for your range report sometime in the near future.

Wow ... and I thought we had it bad here in Illinois (and we do).

Congrats in advance, and good luck with the crazy dance.

A three day waiting period? I don't like it but I can live with it. A 10 year FOID card? Again, I don't like it but I can live with it. It's actually a little protection when doing private sales.

It saddens me that so much tax money is paying for all those hoops you have to jump through just to buy a revolver. Strike one state off my list to ever visit.

I went to the GS today to handle and purchase the Charter Arms 45ACP revolver.I'm actually glad it took so long . It's not a Smith or a Colt ,but all the early problems seem to have been corrected . Rifling was clean and smooth. Cylinder ,spun freely and locked up tight, with minimal movement of any kind . cocking the hammer felt a bit gritty ,as did the trigger pull, but single action pull was ,3-5 lbs. Double action was heavy but ok. You have to remember this is a DRY PISTOL. It has not been cleaned or lubed ....... sight picture was excellent ...Fit and finish were completely acceptable . I would like a more hand fitting grip, I'm working on that as I write this. .......My overall opinion of this gun so far......I LIKE IT .

Lube that little pup up and squeeze that trigger (with snaps caps in the gun) till the cows come home.

Should smooth up like a Dolphins snoot!!

For grips, I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend Pachmayr Compacts!! :D

Post a range report when you can!!

What county are you in? That sounds terrible. In my county (Ulster), the pistol permit clerk at the sheriff's office can rubberstamp a judge's signature for any amendment except issuing a duplicate permit. They will also accept printouts of e-mailed receipts from the dealer or transferring FFL as long as they're legible and have all the necessary info. That means I can have a new pistol in my hands the same day that it arrives at the dealer.

Congrats on your new revolver! Condolences on the nonsense you had to go through to get it.

I'm in Albany , the home of all those folks who watch over our rights and freedom here in the much safer SNY.

Long gun purchases are much easier. The FFL calls in for your background check .If it's ok your good to go . In NY all online purchases of Ammo have been banned also. Our wonderful governor is trying to put background checks and new restrictions on ammo purchases as well. WOW ! Are we ever safe here !

this process FLNT4EVR describes is for his county, Every county in the state is not the same. For Suffolk County it takes me less than 5 minutes to get a purchase permit. That is about the longest delay in have heard of in the state, thank your judge for that.

I grew up upstate NY, and we never had hand guns because of what you are describing. Long guns were much easier back then. I now live in SC and own lots of hand guns to go along with my long guns. Not only is it easier to purchase them down here, you don't have to slog through two feet of snow to get to your LGS

A short time ago, I went into a LGS, found out they were having a sale, picked out my choice (a S&W Model 642-2), got the NICS approval in minutes, paid for it, unloaded my old backup, loaded my new backup, holstered it and was out the door! Total time involved: 30 minutes, including BS time. Of course, I'm in Oklahoma.

Enjoy your new shooter!

I don't really see it that way. Three day wait on handguns, one day on long guns.

The last handgun I bought was a couple months ago. I had to fill out the 4473, do the background check, and wait three days to get it. That was the third background check: 1) for the FOID card, 2) for the CCW permit, 3) for the gun purchase.

Same deal for the bolt-action shotgun I bought a few weeks ago, except only a one day wait.

You may be OK with that, but I think it's utterly ridiculous. Not nearly as bad as the OP has to endure, but ridiculous nonetheless.
