VICTORY! SUPPORTERS OF SENSIBLE GUN LAWS WIN AT THE POLLS
Primaries in Maryland, New York, and Rhode Island Teach NRA a Lesson

Dear StoptheNRA Member,

Yesterday, in primaries across the country, we won big and were able to give the NRA a glimpse of what they’re up against this November.

Candidates who stood up for sensible gun laws won their races handily, and voters, like you, told them that preventing gun violence is an important election issue.

In an early test of national political strength for November elections, the NRA took a beating in many states:

In one of the most closely watched races in Maryland, incumbent State Senator John Giannetti was unseated by his Democratic primary opponent, former ambassador Jim Rosapepe, who pounded Giannetti for single-handedly killing the state's assault rifle ban in a prior session of the legislature. "I couldn't have won this race without the help of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence," Rosapepe said.

As our Maryland eActivists know, we have been focusing on Sen. Giannetti and his opposition to banning military-style assault weapons. Now he has learned the tough lesson that adopting the NRA's dangerous agenda is not only bad for public safety, it’s bad politics.

Also in Maryland, newcomer candidate Mike Lenett won out over established state legislators in a State Senate primary, by stressing his support from Sarah Brady. "The support of Sarah Brady and the Brady Campaign were a great help in my victory," said Lenett.

And the victories didn’t stop in Maryland. Rhode Island, too, gave us reason to celebrate. Long-time gun violence prevention friend, Republican U.S. Senator Lincoln Chafee, won a hotly contested primary.

And in New York, Democrat Andrew Cuomo, who spent his career fighting against the NRA, swept away his opponent to win the Democratic nomination for Attorney General. The expected victories in November of Cuomo and Eliot Spitzer for Governor, will mean that the three most powerful positions in New York (along with Republican New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg) will be held by champions of sensible gun laws.

And yesterday's results follow the victory last month of Ed Perlmutter running in Colorado for the U.S. House. He differentiated himself from his principal primary opponent by stressing that he was a champion of gun violence prevention.

We are taking the fight to the federal, state, and local level … and winning.

All of this is leading up to what looks to be an exciting Election Day on November 7, when the gun issue will be in play in many states: for example, in Illinois and Wisconsin, incumbent Governors will be running for re-election on policies squarely on the side of sensible gun laws. Both candidates for the U.S. Senate in Ohio will be supporters of sensible gun laws. And key House races, in states like Pennsylvania, will feature passionate debates on the issue.

We have a lot more work to do … but the tide is starting to turn. The fight for sensible gun laws is prevailing. With your help, we will keep the momentum going and elect candidates this fall who support sensible gun laws and who pass legislation to save lives.

Yesterday's victories are just a start: let's keep the momentum going.

So rinos and demorats in socialist cesspool gungrabbing states back more gun grabbing. What's new?

The gungrabbers will never have the same influence they had under klinton. Not after 9/11 and Katrina. Big Brother can not and will not protect you.

Hmmm.....I wonder how they explain Neil "I Love's Me Some Diane Feinstein" Quinter's defeat in the MD District 13 primary.

Not really news. I could have told you this before the election even happened. In other shocking news, Texas, Florida and Georgia hand defeats to anti-gun candidates.

These peopla aren't going away. They're just biding their time until the anti's are back in power.

As to the people never going back to Clinton type authority, no one remembers. If it didn't happen yesterday, it's old news.

Remember the word apathy.

Quoted for truth.

It's like saying an NRA backed politician loses a primary in NYC - not a big surprise.

I'll give the Brady Camp credit if they can defeat a pro-gun politician in a moderate to pro-gun state. Wait, how about Reid? An anti-AWB Democrat in a pro-gun state. Go for it.

Otherwise, this is more of the same from them. They're notorious for falsely taking credit for election outcomes. They're jealous of the NRA because the NRA can actually claim to have an effect on elections. Their God, klinton, even admitted the impact of the NRA.

The Brady camp is not a great at elections. All they do is sit in the shadows till OTHER ISSUES (like Iraq etc) cause pro-gun politicians affliated with whatever upopular political issue to lose their elections. They leetch onto the democratic leftist administrations in charge lobbying for legislation and EO's.

Y'all say what you will, but i've been getting these mailing from the Brady Bunch for years. This is the first one in many years that had a positive outcome (for them, not us), making them giddy. All their other mailings were about how all the candidates they backed lost.

I'm a baseball fan.

It's almost amusing how giddy you can get by just getting even a solitary base hit if the other pitcher hasn't even let your team on base. Even one run can look like a victory in the face of being shut out.

This isn't too different. The Brady Bunch is losing most everywhere, and can only score victories in the most anti-gun left wing bastions they have. Yes, this is a victory for their side, even if they had precious little to do with it. We need to keep working so this is all they get. The trend is for us, not them- remember that, and work to keep it that way.

Don't Tread on Me,

Probably not too much to worry about with Senator Reid. Thus far, Senator John Ensign looks to be the early favorite and his RKBA record is quite good. The two balance each other out quite nicely and Nevada is still a relatively conservative state.

The only problem I can see is if the Democrat challenger Jack Carter (son of former prez Jimmy Carter) actually wins. We'd then have a moderate Democrat (Reid) and a relative unknown although according to http://www.ontheissues.org/Domestic/Jack_Carter_Gun_Control.htm
Jack Carter is pro-2A. He also talks a good game on civil rights and I really liked his take on whether or not Nevada should legalize small amounts of cannabis. "I don't care, frankly" He believes its up to the people.

My vote will probably be for John Ensign unless a good libertarian comes out of nowhere. Jack Carter does look to be a good candidate, but I fear partisan loyalty might influence him more than I'd like.

The gungrabbers will never have the same influence they had under klinton. Not after 9/11 and Katrina. Big Brother can not and will not protect you.
Don't bet on it. The Sheeple may well put the Democrat/liberal/socialists back in power this November and hand them the White House in 2008.

These two nightmares could never come to pass without the twin helping hands of -

1: The relentless brainwashing of The Sheeple by academia, the media and
the so-called intertainment industry.
2: The votes of so-called gun owners.

What are stoptheNRA's demographics?

Given the unique qualities of the electoral college, I think a lot of that power is diminshed in presidential races.

Who knows what weird stuff will happen down the line, enjoy shooting while you can.;)

As of 11:59pm Dec. 31st, 2009 President Hillary Clintons new Women Against Independance and Liberty (WAIL) decree will take effect. It is our duty to remind all men that they are to report to their nearest Police station for fingerprinting; and to turn in all of their firearms and ammunition.

Please remember any male not fingerprinted by Jan. 31st 2010 will be jailed as part of this 500 billion dollar initiative. Any males caught with firearms after this date will be jailed for life without exception. President Clinton has stated she expects some impotent resistance from the "idiot gun people", so the all-women Police forces instituted at the beginning of this year have been cleared to shoot at anyone not complying.

The all-female Police forces have been issued a special run of Black Talon ammunition for use in enforcing this decree. Men who were in law enforcement or government work and lost their jobs as part of the All Women Only law from earlier this year are reminded that their fingerprints are already on file and they need not report.

In a related story, the new jails built on the Island of California are nearing completion; and the damage from the earthquake that caused the creation of California Island has almost totally been cleaned up. President Clinton has said numerous times that the number of jails being built on the island are more then adequate to house any number of males who challenge the decree.

Males are reminded that the 6pm curfew instituted last July will remain in effect indefinately. Please ensure only females are seen on the streets by police past 6pm.

President Clinton will also announce in January if the plan to castrate all males at birth will become law. It is rumoured that once the nations frozen sperm bank has adequate stores, the law will be passed. Men are reminded that this law is retroactive, so when the decree for castration is passed, they must report to their nearest medical center immediately and without exception.

I see no shift of power here.

Typical political ploy: jump to the end of the parade route, and then claim you'd lead the parade.

Backing the likely winner in gun hostile blue state bastions of power is not a victory, it's a foregone conclusion.

Extrapolating this to be some sort of shift in power or voter mandate is ludicrous.

I'm confident that Americans can possess some sense. Seeing that the decades of gun laws DON"T make people safer and because everytime the anti gun politicians tend to lose (outside their liberal big cities) I genuinely believe we'll see more PRO gun candidates.

I also believe that the victories the antis had were due largely because the pro-gun crowd showed little united interest in stopping them.

Now that the anti-gun crowd has awoken a sleeping giant (e.g most of America are gun owners or agree that gun ownership should be legal) the anti-gun crowd will continue to take a beating. The Dems have lost so many important seats in Congress and has lost the Presidency twice in large part on the gun control issue.

The funny thing is that the Dems never learn!

geekWithA.45 gets it.

Without even having to look at the issues in the various races, I'm sure that the candidates were offering every manner of free bread and circuses to the voters.

That these candidates embraced whatever Brady Campaign policies is tangential.

After suffering humiliating defeats for 12 years in which gun politics actually did play a role, these folks are trying to ride the coattails of other issues.

And it's a long way 'till November.

Just remember... Those nasty republicans, who, as you know from everything you've heard in the mass media recently are responsible for everything from the millions of deaths in Iraq to our $3/gallon gas, should be shunned. So vote for anyone but a Republican.

Sincerely,

People who know what is good for you.

I think the problem that you could face is getting several "pro-gun" Democrats elected. The question will then become when the party leadership wants to ban something will those "pro-gun" Democrats stick with the party or vote against it. At first I think the memory of 1994 will be in their minds but if several years pass they might forget......

I don't think that gun owners are going to be a major player in the upcoming election. 80 million gun owners against at least the same number of soccer mom's who have kids. The war is going to take center stage.

The anti war politican, for the most part are Democrats. They also happen to be anti gun. Because their stance on gun issues has caused them defeats during the previous elections, one would think that the Dems would change their policy regarding gun control. They haven't. They have just bit their lip, waiting until they come back into power. And yes, it will be a power shift.

Brady taking credit for the wins is irrelevant.

John Kyle of AZ swept his primary opponent, and his billboards have printed on them "NRA Freedoms' Frontline" I have never seen a political ad with the NRA listed positively, even in this pro gun state. I like it.
Randy Graf won his primary - I voted for him. He is very pro gun.
