I now have proof that life isn't fair. OK, I already knew that but ... I was at the indoor range today and they were not very busy. I had pretty much finished up my practice with my Glock 19 and I was pretty pleased with my series of 2 inch to 3 1/2 inch groups at 7 yards. Especially since I have been striving to get the five round groups fired off much faster than I normally shoot. Not true fast as you can pull the trigger rapid fire but quite enough faster than normal that it attracted everyone's attention.

I looked down the firing line to watch this large 30ish guy blazing away at a man sized target on the 5 yard line. That target looked like it had been used to pattern multiple rounds of 00 buckshot at 60 yards. I couldn't imagine how the guy had a clue where he was hitting the target at this point. Since I had a spare 8 1/2 by 11 regulation pistol target, and since he had approached me earlier so I could explain that .45 ACP and .45 GAP ammo was not the same, I decided to offer him the extra target so he could get a clue where his current shots were going. He accepted and since I was now down at his lane, he wanted to proudly show me his arsenal.

I have never seen that many really nice expensive pistols and revolvers in the possession of one person. There were three Kimbers (a couple were pretty heavily customized), an H & K which he said he had not even had time to shoot yet and three revolvers all equipped with night sights and custom grips. When he started telling me what he had at home ... well I only believed him because of what I could see he had brought to the range. He was CCW too. He was rightfully proud of the "sweet shooting" pistols he had. And of the custom trigger work he had a gunsmith do for him to make them shoot even better.

I finally had to move away before I started drowning in my own drool. After I stepped away he again began to shoot. I watched his next ten measured shots at the new target I had given him.

Five yards to the target. Ten rounds. 8 1/2 by 11 inch target. Four of the ten rounds hit some where on the target, two of his shots actually hit some where in the black ... who knows where the other six rounds went.

And I left wondering about how he even qualified for his CCW. I'd love to be able to afford any one of his fine weapons. He seemingly doesn't have any real use for them.

Wow, Ive seen it before. And it never fails to irritate me. ive had to scrimp and save, beg and borrow for everything in my collection. and some people are able to buy the best things that the guy at the gun store recommends. must be nice to have all that money, and no concept of what youre buying

this is life and this happens in every hobby, there will always be the guy that can't change his own oil yet owns some of the nicest classic cars money can buy.

In general Rich people have nice gun but cant shoot,(they can afford to miss) poor people have cheap guns and cant shoot a dime.

Moral of this story, money cant save your life LOL

thats me too. except now I pick one gun that I want/like and and save up for it. so my collection is really quite small.

well hey atleast hes having fun and probably not not hurting anyone so let him we can always use another person on our side

The other day at Bass Pro Shop's range a lady on the lane to my left emptied a 45 ACP magazine at an 8 by 11 target no further than 7 feet away and not a single bullet hit the paper. I moved two lanes further out of caution.

Up until recently, I shot outdoors (before the "new neighbors"). One of my first times at an indoor range, I had the pleasure of occupying a lane next to a fellow with a tricked out 1911 chambered in .38 super, complete with red dot. He'd slap a magazine in, bam bam bam bam bam bam bam bam... next magazine, same thing. The target at the 7 yard mark was recording some amazingly slopping "patterns" well exceeding 12".

Mind you, I didn't particularly mind that this kid was blasting away at a nearby target that he was hardly hitting, but the chafing point was that he probably spent a fortune customizing his pistol that he apparently made no effort to shoot accurately. Maybe he had his reasons, but it sure looked like a bunch of stupid to me.

I'd rather be in your position than his frankly. Wouldn't you?

Play nice and help him improve. Show him how to improve his accuracy. Then, maybe he'll be nice to let you shoot some of his fine guns.

Some twenty years ago or so; my neighbors A/C went out. Now this guy made a 6 figure income, but he couldn't take both hands and pull one thumb out of his (well). I jerked up a hand full of tools and an Amp Clamp meter. I had been hearing that condensor fan motor making racket for several weeks. Yep, that was it. At the time I worked a job were I was in charge of the facilities maintenance men at the area largest plant. So I called up the local supply house. This was on a Saturday afternoon and had one there people meet me at the store. I got what I needed and returned and replaced the neighbors fan and had him going in two shakes of a lambs tail. NOW HERE IS THE FUNNY PART: The next saturday the fellow rings the door bell. He has gone out and bought a meter just like mine. Nothing special just a good meter. Oh, he was prouder than punch of his new toy and wanted to show it to me. I said, Dale what are you going to do with it. His reply, "get you to tell me how to use it." The point is you will aways find people who some how manage to have all the money in the world and buy all the pretty bobbles, etc; and don't have the foggest idea what or how to do anything with with they have. Then, there are people like most of us here who rake and scrape all there lives to make ends meet, don't have two nickle to rub together and die, broke. But we make do with what we have, hold our heads up high and go on with life. I fixed the guys A/C for free except the part which was my price, less than wholesale. I told him to take the meter back before he killed himself. I don't know what he did with it. He was constantly getting me to fix and make things for him, while he drove around in a Lincoln Continental and I drove a worn out old Toyota. Some folkes have all the luck.:)

I wouldn't knock that guy at all. In fact, I'd befriend him because those are the folks that allow shooters like me to buy nice used pieces at an affordable price.:D

The trouble now is if you try to "assist with pistol marksmanship" they get all crazy!! Now I will ask someone if they are attempting to aim versus spray. Most time I get a smile and "yes, I do not know which way to move the sight" but sometimes I can tell I am talking to the wall.

Sounds like a bunch of class envy;).

Maybe the rich (how will that be defined?) should be required to have their gun wealth re-distributed to those who "deserve" it:D.

Wealth envy? The poor guy probably works 60 hours a week and only has the chance to shoot once a month. No wonder he isn't a good shot.

I think I like you, 45Badger.

I'd rather be in his position. It's much easier to learn to shoot better than to make more money.

As long as humans live there will be somebody else who has better toys than you. Maybe he's just starting out and wanted to start with the best?

So the guy can't shoot. So what? Did it make you shoot worse knowing three lanes down was somebody who couldn't hit a barn from inside?

"Furthermore, I tell you that it is easier for a rope to pass through a needle's eye than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God."

Matthew 19:24

Really? The guy can't shoot, so he's not going to Heaven? Guess he and I can shoot poorly together in hell then.

Yeah, it could be like previously said, he probably works crazy hours, and since he can't find time to shoot, just accumulates guns.

I used to do that with guitar....never had time to practice, since I worked 16 hours a day, 7 days a week for years, but boy oh boy did I have one hell of a collection. It would have been a gun collection if any gun stores in the area would have worked around my crazy "well before dawn, well after dusk" workday. About 2/3rds of my take home income was completely disposable....so you can imagine all the crap I was getting off the internet.

Perhaps this guy is the same.

At least he seemed like a good guy. I knew some rich kids when I was young (tho I never had the money to run in their crowd) and all they did was show off their toys and rub your nose in it. I didn't like them much. In fact.....

Just enjoy what you have, appreciate what you have, and don't worry about the other guy. ;)

I have a nice 1911 in .38 Super on it (got a good deal on it used), and it is just as much fun to blast away with a full mag as it is to drill a nice little group, both of which I do with it, so to each his own.

The guy is probably like one of the many I've seen as students. You get a lot of working professionals, Dentists, CPAs, Lawyers, etc.. Who fall into the misfortune of working 60 hours a week to support a lifestyle they rarely get to enjoy after they pay attention to their wives, kids, pets, paying the bills, etc... So they go and buy the biggest and bestest***(I know not a real word just making a point) toys. Generally because they like them, sometimes because they want other people to like them, sometimes you get the sad feeling they are compensating for missing out on life because of work.

I've never bought any high priced items, oh yeah I've inherited them from the deceased, or gotten paid with them in turn (S&W Model 19s, those I consider high priced). I'd rather own Romanian Toakrevs over a Kimber(cheaper to feed, easier to work on personally), but that's me.

I just want to be country attorney, mediate in family law and civil circuit, run some of my small businesses and enjoy life. Keep your Kimbers(and Porsches), STIs(Armani), Colt Gold Cu 1911s(Versace), I'll keep my down and dirty simple boomsticks that go bang everytime. If it's too pretty to shoot I'm not going to buy it, it's why I stick to used and private purchases.

Ironically, you spell Versace correctly. :p

So Kimber, STI and Colt are unilaterally comparable in design, function, heritage and merit? (Like Porches? Armani :scrutiny: and Versace? :barf:)
