This time of the year, I find it useful to focus on some of the things I'm grateful for.

It gives me a reason to shift my perspective away from all the things I'm not so happy about, and to give thanks for the things that are good.

Obviously, because The High Road is a gun forum, This thread is dedicated to the "Gun" things I'm thankful for.

So, I'll go first.

1. Myself and My Family managed to get through the last year without being fired on, or having to fire on anybody else.

This is a good thing, and contrary to some of the posts I see around the net it's really the goal.

2. My little collection of guns is intact.

So far, nobody has confiscated any, none were banned, and none fell prey to financial problems. I have the same guns today that I had last year at this time.

3. The laws around here have not gotten any worse.

I can still own, keep, shoot, and supply ammo for my guns. I can still defend my home. With proper licensing, I can carry for defense in public.

In some cases, the local gun laws have gotten just a little more lax.

4. While the ammo situation has had it's unpleasant moments, I have managed to keep at least a small amount of ammo on hand for all my guns.

Some calibers didn't get fired this last year, but at no time was I not able to load and use any and all of them if I saw a reason to do so.

At this time, the ammo situation seems to be improving.

This short little list is by no means complete. There's lots more stuff that's not on topic for this forum, and I'm not trying to list every single gun thing I'm grateful for today.

The point is to just start a conversation about the good things this year brought us.

I bet some of you hunters can add a few thoughts.

If I can look at the last year in this light, it's easy for me to be grateful.

Sure, some stuff went down.

But all things considered we still live where there are rights and freedoms.

Happy Thanksgiving, Guys. Enjoy your Turkeys and enjoy your rights.

If we stay diligent next year, we get to be thankful for our good fortunes again next year.

So what about it, guys? Got anything to add to the list?

I am thankful for my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, my family, my job, where I live, my freedoms, and a great THR forum to learn from. Happy Thanksgiving!

A MAJOR +1 to this!

To all the members of THR in the USA, a most blessed Thanksgiving to y'all.

To the remainder of THR's family, have a fantastic and safe weekend.

It took the trauma of the Civil War to make Thanksgiving a formal, annual holiday.

Lincoln issued his proclamation on Oct. 3, 1863, three months after Union Army victories at Gettysburg and Vicksburg, and at a time in which ultimate triumph appeared in sight. "There was a lot to be thankful for in the fall of 1863," said Allen Guelzo, the Henry R. Luce Professor of the Civil War Era at Gettysburg College.

Writing that the nation's many blessings "should be solemnly, reverently, and gratefully acknowledged" by the American people, Lincoln declared: I do therefore invite my fellow-citizens in every part of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next as a day of thanksgiving and praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the heavens."

I also humbly stand in gratitude to my awesome Savior, grateful to that trooper enjoying his dinner in the dessert, to my family of choice who love and respect me, and to the men I mentor who are trying to better themselves and deserve all the same grace as I received.

I must always remember how big He is and how small I am. Let all humble warriors walk in the strength of His blood and the grace of His resurrection. Amen my brothers.

Happy Thanksgiving THR!!!

Hope everyone enjoys it with family and friends and then goes shooting later or tomorrow. ;-)

Well folks, I don't share a lot of my personal life online, but I feel like sharing with you all what I am thankful for this year. My wife gave birth via C section to our beautiful baby girl Tuesday at 12:24pm. She is a very healthy 10lb 5oz baby girl with a nice head of hair and a good dark complexion, traits that run strong in my family. After having lots of problems health wise with my 13 year old when he was born it was nice to have such a healthy baby!

Without further delay I give you Abigail Rose:

I am thankful for this man and every other one like him! Make it possible for me to be thankful for my family, kids, and everything else I love!

1. Thankful I have a good job with plenty of overtime and even got a 2 dollar raise this year
2. Thankful I got into guns finally and took defense of my life into my own hands instead of relying on the police (not to knock them but we all know the "when seconds count..." phrase). Could have certainly picked a better time (especially buying my AR in March with about 25% inflation on the price), but it has been worth it.
3. Thankful that I have at least a few good friends left in this world.
4. Thankful for our troops. Even though I might disagree with the things our military is being employed for, I still honor and admire these people that put their lives on the line when I know I don't have the courage to do so.
5. Thankful I life in one of the last states to ever consider bad gun legislation (Texas). Would have been nice if our Open Carry bill hadn't gotten killed in committee, but I'll be taking advantage of the shorter CHL class times very soon.
6. Thankful for the big ol tryptophan laden meal I'm about to be eating and the nice nap I will have afterwards.

I'm thankful for my family, My youngest son married into a relationship that, well she didn't believe in guns, and would not let my son even bring a firearm into the home.

To make a long story even longer, my son had to keep his firearms stored at my home, that it is until the last 3 years. They have 3 daughters, all very lovely young ladies, the oldest is 20 and the youngest is 13.

Well during those long years of having been turned down on taking them out shooting my daughter in law happened to be at my home during one of my firearms safety meeting, and overheard a good piece of the conversation going on about the safe handling of firearms. Well it wasn't long before she asked me if I would give her and there three daughters a course on firearms. Needless to say I was beside myself and the rest is history.

Now all of them are active shooters, the two oldest grand daughters are also avid hunters with their boyfriends, they've both shot pheasants and a turkey with in the past year.

Now tell me how could I be more thankful for all that.
