I decided that it was unacceptable to have no top break revolver in the safe , so I found an affordable Iver Johnson Supershot Sealed Eight. (affordable = $117) Action and bore are very good , aside from a rather heavy da trigger which was no surprise , nice grips , fair finish. I am curious as to the age of this revolver.

Who can date an Iver Johnson? 20180926_200329.jpg 20180928_173759.jpg

Looks a lot like the one I diassembled at the age of ten (as a budding gunsmith) , and my Mom found in the Ziploc bag I put it in , and threw away because she thought it was junk. It had been her Dad's gun, he gave it to my Dad as part of the wedding present.
Good price, I usually see them closer to $200.

So ... I found this. It is from TFF a few years back ; Bill Goforth is THE historian of Iver Johnson , Harrington Richardson , and the like. God bless those who engage in such labors of love to the benefit of slackers like me.

My serial# falls towards the tail end of the run of
"22 SUPERSHOT SEALED EIGHT FIRST MODEL". L26601 was the end of that run in 1941 , mine is L25570 . I found somewhere that the 1936 range was L13651 to L14900... How do I pro-rate all that? I guess I'd be safe saying 1940 , but claiming a late 30's date would be nice.

Anyway , I took a flyer on the revolver , knowing little about it at the time I bid. Regarding value , it certainly is 60% condition or better , so $117 isn't bad. I like the old stuff , and I am pleased to learn that I have a First Model.

There you have it. End of report to self.
