IWB carry issues...what do you use?

I carry my 1911's in one of my 3 Milt Sparks VM II's. Two of them are of Horse hide, keep the moisture of my sweaty body off the weapons.

For my Highpowers I use a Canute from HBG holsters. Similar to the the VM II but works well.

I wore a model 66 3" S&W for years, then a SIG 226. Today I have returned to 1911's and I also carry Highpowers for CCW.

Thin weapons are the key. Then a quality belt and holster.

I wear Wilderness Products 5 stitch instructors belt with the afore mentioned VMII or Canute depending on the weapon to be used that day.

Don't try to save money on your holster or belt. It will be a very expensive way to save money.

Go figure.

I'm pretty happy with my COMIII from hbeleatherworks.

It's an awesome holster, but there are times when some un-necessary leather used for billboard purposes gets on my nerves.

I have to admit that I'm tempted to try a VM2 at times, but I just can't bring myself to drop the dough that could be used on ammo when I already have an awesome holster.

I'm using a Comptac C-TAC with a Kimber Pro TLE II. I've had to change my dressing habits to wear looser clothing to keep from printing (hurray for sales at Kohls) and I'm investigating belts right now to keep the holster from sagging and to hold it closer to my body. I'm hoping that will make a huge difference.

LOL, I've also noticed that one of the most important things when it comes to CCing is BELT LOOOOOPS.

Seriously, if the belt loops aren't right, it's going to be uncomfortable, and you're going to print.

I just picked up some Levi's shorts at Kohl's (lol, metallic) that have the supplementary belt loops at 4 and 7 oclock.

IMO, those extra 4 and 7 oclock belt loops makes carrying really comfortable.

I won't buy pants without them anymore.

Don Hume 715M. "Tucks" reasonably well even though it's not designed for it.

Very well made and reasonably priced. I have them for my Glock 19, Glock 22, M1911 and Browning HP, and S&W 3" Model 65.

I carry a full size 1911 IWB everyday. I carry in a UBG leather holster with spring clips with no issues. The spring clips keep my rig right where I want it. I get zero front to rear movement through out the day I wear a loose shirt over my 1911 and most people are none the wiser. I do not have to wear a suit and tie so that makes thing much easier for me.

Currently I'm carrying in a Raven Concealment ACR and the only complaint I have is that it can be difficult to tie my right shoe with out repositioning it. Regarding the positioning of your holster, other then buying a good gun belt the only real thing you can do is fool around with it until you find the right spot. If you are going to buy another holster I can say that raven concealment and horseshoe leather both make really good stuff at a reasonable price and are worth a look.

+1 for the UBG canute for full size carry. I am 5' 9" at about 160 and this works well with a baggy t-shirt. For summer wear or max concealment I use a SP101 with a belly band. Definatly no printing whatsoever, but the belly band isnt very comfortable after a while especially if your going somewhere for dinner :)

Things like that are why I learned how to sew shortly after getting my carry permit.

Shoot, I need to do that.

It's hard though, since some I don't have any extra material to make belt loops with on most of my shorts, hahaha.

Clothing is also my most frustrating obstacle. I never have an un-tucked outer shirt.

I'm probably going with one of Tucker Gun Leather's IWB holsters, since they seem like one of the only ones to get as close to 'perfecting' the tuckable holster. Or maybe a VM II.

I carry a S&W M&P 9c at 4 o'clock position in this...which I made. There are many like it for sale. 4 o'clock is good for me because it rocks back and forth and I can get in and out of a car without having to do much of anything.

To me the best IWB style holsters are the ones that have their straps/clips before and after the holster. When tightening the belt it pulls it into my body but also is a rock solid mount preventing the holster/weapon from rocking. Here are a few of mine.

I cannot carry anything on my hip.
I have a Sig 228, S&W J frame, Bersa Thunder 380, it doesn't matter. Maybe it's the way I'm built, but they just don't work on my hip.
Most of my shirts are fitted/athletic cut, but even baggy shirts don't work.
I'm 5'-8" and 170 lbs.

The only thing that works for me IWB is appendix carry.
I like appendix carry with my J frame. It's fast and easy to get to, comfortable to sit in, and never prints no matter how I'm positioned.

Here's a link to a thread I made about my homemade kydex holster:

If you don't wanna make your own then try Alabama Holster Company's appendix holster.

try to find a holster that has its clips offset from the gun. that helps keep the width down.

I have done more experimenting with the Summer Comfort, and have found that with a wider belt it does much better. I wear it at 4:00 or 2:00, but a baggy shirt is a must. Unfortunately, it does move around too much for my taste. I sense a modification in the not too distant future.

I had a hard time getting something comfortable for IWB carry. I had pretty much given up and dressed for OWB. I tried different holsters and then finally got a Milt Sparks VM II. I should have bought one a long time ago and I would have saved alot of $ from buying other holsters to try. I am very happy with the VM II. Finally, a holster that works IWB for me. :D

From my experience, advice from others and mistakes, I've come to the conclusion that if you want a good IWB holster, get a nice, smooth, leather one with a retention strap. Don't get one of those open top, rugged "sued" leather ones; quality and retention is very important when it comes to holsters. I believe retention is far more important than access. There is nothing more dangerous than your gun falling out at the wrong time. I'd rather train hard with a good quality, retention strap than risk having my piece flop around god knows where during a combat situation. Just MY personal opinion, though. Check out Bianchi, Uncle Mikes, Safariland and Galco. Fobus and Blackhawk MIGHT have some good aforementioned style holsters as well, but the smooth leather holster reputation is upheld by the first choices.

4:00 is the most comfortable for me. I like Milt Sparks WS1 holsters, very thin, will not shift, stiff. The printing may be in your head if your new to CCW, it takes awhile to get confident, and comfortable. What others see and what you feel on your hip, are two different things.:) I also ditched the thick plastic doublestacks, and now carry a 3" Kimber with a set of thin grips;)

1911's I carry in either a Milt Sparks VM II or Brommelland Max Con V...both exceptional, but not cheap

My Springfield XDm is carried in a Comp-Tac MTAC....hybrid Kydex/Leather...a little cheaper than those I listed above, but also an excellent holster
