It's winter in my world right now, but I am thinking ahead to summer. I would like to carry AIWB (appendix carrry) including in hot and humid summer weather when I am only wearing one shirt. I'd appreciate some comments on that, especially regarding the different types of holster materials. I have no objection to a no-clip fabric type of holster if that is the most comfortable against the skin. I will probably be carrying an LCP as I just started to do now. I know I can pocket carry it instead, but I want to know about AIWB in hot weather. Thanks for any comments and ideas.

Alien Gear's cloak tuck hybrid has neoprene on the outside against the skin. I live in hot and humid conditions 95% of the year and it is comfortable. I never wear more than 1 shirt.

I can't tell you about carrying AIWB, but smooth horsehide is great for IWB holsters.

IWB

Like thefish said, it's no problem at all. All year round I wear a cotton undershirt, everything seems more comfortable that way, and I wear a suede outside finish holster with my Shield more at the 12:30 .... 1:00 position between that and my outside shirt . When you get home just separate the holster from your firearm and let the holster breath. No rust, no problem, go over your rig from time to time for a closer inspection.......Very comfortable !

In the summer I usually wear either just a t shirt, or just a button down. I rarely wear an under shirt unless I'm going somewhere where I should look somewhat presentable. It's just too damn humid to be layering up. I carry a commander 1911 in a copy of Bruce Nelson's Summer special. I find almost no difference in comfort.

But JTQ has an excellent suggestion; if you want an under shirt, Under Armor is what's up. On the pricey side, but worth every penny. And their moisture wicking abilities are great. I work in a warehouse that is 32 degrees year round, and I wear the "cold weather gear". But I also sweat at work, and they keep me warm and dry

Winter or Summer I don't carry with an undershirt. I use a White Hat holster and the leather backing sits right against my skin and is very comfortable.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I am familiar with UA and the like, but will not go that route. Just gonna have one shirt, covering the gun. Keep em coming please.

I wear IWB at 3-4 o'clock year around without an under shirt between me and the holster. I usually just wear a T-shirt, or polo shirt over it in summer, Then add a long sleeve unbuttoned work shirt over it if the weather cools. I have used the Ramora and recently got a Theis. Both work well without an undershirt.

I generally carry IWB in the summer. Often without anything between the holster and my skin. Crossbreed Supertuck Horsehide leather.

Get a holster with a sweat guard for the summer and you're set.

I'm loving the IWB line of leather holsters from Blackhawk

I can count on one hand the number of times that I have worn a gun IWB or AIWB with a shirt tucked behind it. About the only times I do are if its something like a shooting class and I want to eliminate the chest hair variable ;)

As far as holsters go, I haven't found one for the LCP yet, but I've been thinking about trying to make one. (Came across some pictures of holsters made out of 4inch PVC drain pipe, and they looked pretty good, so I'll probably try that)

My "go to" holster for AIWB is a Keepers Concealment (M&P shield) and I love it. I think I paid around 150 for it, and I feel like it was worth every penny. When I'm hiking or if I want something I can just "stow and go" I've been able to conceal a full sized M&P AIWB no problems in a Los Cheapos Uncle Mikes clip type holster. Not the best option, but it's what I happen to have on hand.

I've heard good things about Dark Star Gears holsters for guns like the JFRAME and LCP, but I haven't tried them. I do have a knife sheath from him, and I think if that's indicative of his work, then I have no problem endorsing his products

Or horsehide leather. Horsehide is less permeable than cowhide and will keep sweat off a firearm. The only time I sweat through the horsehide on my holster was I ran just under two miles in Alabama summer wearing jeans.

I wear a Hanes tank, one size larger which helps it stay put, under a t-shirt, button down, or breathable golf polo like this-

With a loose fitting outer shirt you will hardly notice the tank.

What I like and what you like could be miles apart. I`d suggest you go to the next Gun Show (if you have any) and just try a bunch on. Hands on is so much better than, " what do you think?"

I've been wearing a Crossbreads IWB for years with no issues,I mostly wear short sleeve button up dress shirts and polo shirts and on weekends I wear carheart shirts, never has been a issue with Crossbreads and if I need to wear a suit I pocket carry.

I've been carrying an S&W 442 AIWB in a Remora no clip holster for the last 2 months. I like it. If I knew I was going to be doing something that required an excessive amount of bending, squatting, or other activity, I would switch to my Smart Carry, but for normal walking, sitting, driving, etc. The Remora is great. The tacky surface of the Remora works best against bare skin.

I wear IWB year-round and I rarely have a shirt between the holster and skin. No issues with comfort or concealability. I have a hybrid holster with horsehide backing. When it's really hot out, I do sweat through it. It is inevitable.

For some reason I never got into the habit of wearing an undershirt and so I don't except in severely cold weather. I have carried rough out leather, kydex, smooth leather and cordura IWB holsters over the years and haven't been bothered by any of them in the least.

I damaged the finish on my blued Sig P220 because I sweated thru a leather holster. I didn't think to remove the gun because it was winter, but I had been exerting myself pretty hard and had soaked it thru without realizing it. By the time I pulled the gun out of the holster a few days later the slide was already pitted.

I solved the problem of it ever happening again with a liberal application of Sno Seal boot waterproofer. I use it on all my IWB leather holsters now, either that or pure hot beeswax.

Wore this rig under a t-shirt for a few years in Arizona summer weather. Just keep the mag release button lubed and the rest is good. Still use it today - going to try to get another one for the CZ P-09. It is easy enough to conceal a full size sidearm if you're willing to work at it. ;)

High Noon Down Under IWB rig with a nice thick sweat shield. Heck, it's almost thick enough to qualify as medieval armor!

Another thing to keep in mind is how is your grip texture? I carried a CZ P-07, (first gen Duty), and the grip texturing was quite "aggressive" caused a road rash over the course of a day...new ones are much better.

I carry IWB in a Garrett IWB. It's kydex with a leather liner. It doesn't bother me at all against my skin all day. I have the same rig for small guns (eg Beretta Nano and Ruger LCR) and big ones (full sized HK USP, HK P30S, HK P30L & HK VP9).
