Rent the Doris Day DVD from the late 50s "Teacher's Pet". It clearly shows the transition from the old style journalism of "reporting the facts" to "reporting the why."
And now with decades of liberal dominance it is much harder for that conservative journalist to even get that first break. People tend to hire people that are like them, and city desk editors are no different. They can't base it on race or gender anymore but by God, they certainly can hire people who think they same way they do.
