Well, the temperatures went up but my score went down. It was a very good day at our monthly Steel Challenge match at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility in North Phoenix, Az.

It only hit 98 degrees by the time I left the range at noon, compared to last week when it was 114 and I’m a happy camper. I came prepared with 4 bottles of Gatorade, 4 bottles of water and some packs of electrolytes to help me get through the day. I also had a couple of Chili Cloths and a frozen vest from The Cooling Store.

Today I shot my Black Mamba. It was feeling lonely since I’ve been shooting my revolver the past few months and it didn’t disappoint me. I shot my best match since coming back to shooting 4 years ago. It was only a 154 seconds but I’m happy with the results.

I could have done better on Pendulum, I shot too slow wanting to make my hits count and I turned in a decent run but nothing to wright home about. Most stage runs I averaged in the 4.5 seconds per run but I had a few where I tried to go too fast and it bit me in the butt.

I took the thumb rest off my Black Mamba so that my grip would feel more like what I’m using for my revolver. Thumbs interlocked and my wrists locked I felt very little movement during the shot.

I used Norma Tac 22 today. It’s new ammo for me. I got a good deal on it and wanted to give it a try. It works flawlessly in my gun. I had no jams or misfires related to ammo. I had one run I had to eat because I dropped my mag on the ground and just blew it off instead taking the ammo out and giving it a good cleaning. At least it was a throw away run.
