I decided to build a Black Mamba pistol from a Ruger Mark IV 22/45 Lite.

I use this gun for Steel Challenge Matches. It has all the Volquartsen Upgrades including: Accurizing Kit, VQ Bolt with new firing pin and extractor, Bill Stiplin Cornerstone Safety and Thumb Rest. VQ Extended Bolt Release and Tandemdcross Victory Trigger. It also boasts a C-More Red Dot with 12 MOA diode and Stoner CNC Grips.

I have put over 75 thousand rounds though it and finally broke the LLV upper. I sent it back to Volguartsen the day before Christmas and got it back the Tuesday before New Years. Turn-a-round is fantastic.

The gun shoots 1 inch at 25 yards, more than accurate enough for Steel Challenge Matches were MOA isn't as important as Minute Of Plate.

This Sunday is one of our SC matches. I hope to do well with the new setup.

What broke on the upper? Doesn’t seem possible with .22lr.

Sweet steel challenge pistol!

That VQ looks like it's a heavy upper, I'm wondering, does the comp make any difference in muzzle rise? I have three of the heavy barrel factory Rugers, a 6.5" Mk II and 5.5" and a 10" for my Mk IV, someday I'd like to upgrade and get a VQ upper.

Stay safe.

The upper is very light, much lighter than your 5.5 inch barrel. The compensator makes a big difference. Friends tell me they can see the jets of gas coming from the comp. I've taken it off and have felt the difference.

For Steel Challenge shooting the lighter upper helps to transition faster between targets.

Volquartsen's upper is the same way. Skinny barrel glued and pressed inside.

The LLV upper is only $340 at Brownells.
