First off I beg the mods' indulgence on this completely off-topic and non gun related post. I will accept your judgment to whether it is appropriate.

Bloomington native, Navy WWII Veteran, Paul Goodman will be turning 100 years old on July 29th.

When asking Paul if he had any birthday wishes for his upcoming birthday, he stated "No, I am just thankful."

For those who know Paul, know he is a wonderful man and the Indiana Veterans' Home wants to surprise Paul by having a basket for him, wanting to collect at least 100 Cards for his 100 wonderful years... Wouldn't it be great if we could surprise him with surpassing 100 cards by a long shot?

You can either drop of your card at the Pyle Building Main Switchboard with:
Attention: Mitchell 3CD Goodman 100th Birthday

Or you can mail your card to:
Indiana Veterans' Home
Mitchell 3CD - Goodman 100th Birthday
3851 N. River Road
West Lafayette, IN 47906

This wonderful man deserves to be shown that there are still people in the United States that admire him for the years he put on hold to serve our great nation. The cost of a stamp and a card you not only show him, but all the residents of Indiana Veterans home people do care about the sacrifices they have made.

Consider my card in the mail. I will stop by CVS and pick one up at the end of my shift.

Edit: I just sent a text to a few of my old military buddies, consider 2 more cards in the mail.

As it happens...

I found a couple-three old/vintage cards the other day from an estate sale. This is likely a good destination for one.

Todd.

It'll be in the mail by the end of the weekend. It's the least we can do for someone who gave us so much. Thanks for doing this for him, and Art, thanks for allowing this exception.

Thank you Ranger, Todd and Tom... As well as Art for the exception!

Tom, this isn't my project. I just caught the fever and wanted to be part of it. The culture at Indiana Veterans Homes is that our residents are heroes to the nation and should be treated as such. After many years of being a volunteer at IVH this is just one of many many little touches I've seen staff come up with.

If I thought I could get away with it I would write special services at Pearl Harbor and try to talk the Navy into some sort of recognition. The only reason I don't is I'm afraid someone has beaten me to it.

Thank you for the opportunity to honor this gentleman. I'll pick up a card tomorrow and fill it out with some notes/art from the 6 kids at home (2 y/o - 16 y/o). A good way to model respect and honor for elders and servicemen to our next generation.

A very fine gesture. I'll drop by Walgreen's and pick up a card today to get it into the post.

100 wonderful years! To think he was only 26 on Pearl Harbor Day.

Card will be in the mail tomorrow. I lost my dad just over 2 years ago. He was also a WW-2 vet and would be 92 if he were still with us. All of those guys have a special place in my heart and there aren't many left.

Both of my father's-in-law (normal and step) were career Navy and great men. I'm sending a couple cards tomorrow.

For a veteran from WWII ... it'll be in the mail tomorrow coming home after work. 100 years old ... wow! My Dad served during WWII in Europe and would have been 88 this year (passed at age 77).

Are you guys who are sending one mentioning THR, officers wifes handle, or your handle? Just curious how I should sign it.

I signed it with my rank and last name. My two service buddies did the same even though none of us are still active. My wife's best friend sent one as well and she just signed her first name.

I would prefer you use your name and/or affiliation. The words "a grateful American citizen" would be a nice touch. I'm just the messenger here, it's your heart and pride in service that is sending the card.
