Just bought another .22LR pistol

For years I've gone without a .22 pistol. I sold my Ruger MkII about 15 years ago. I didn't love shooting .22lr, it was a pain to disassemble and reassemble for cleaning, and I didn't find it all that fun. I like some recoil as part of the fun. At the time, while much more expensive than .22lr, 9mm was also pretty cheap. Even as ammo prices went up, I just wasn't motivated to buy another, though I figured I'd eventually do so.

So, this past autumn I bought a Taurus Tx22 and loved it. I loved it so much I bought a S&W 317 a few months ago since I've thought about buying one for about a decade. I now find shooting .22lr pistols to be quite fun.

Today, I bought a third. I ordered a Glock 44 from a local gunshop (it will take a week for them to get it, and then I can do the paperwork to start the MD seven day waiting period). In addition to wanting another .22 in general, this will be a great trainer for my Glock 19 and Glock 22. I waited until I had been shooting over 20 years to finally buy my first Glock (also this past autumn). The grip angle is such that I shoot my other guns noticeably better than the Glocks (at 10 yards or less I'm fine, but at 15 yards I'm shooting groups like I do at 25 yards with my other handguns). Other than accuracy (which is admittedly still "combat accurate," it isn't all that bad), I really enjoy my Glocks. So, I figured getting the G44 (which has the same measurements as the G19) with much cheaper .22lr should allow me to get used to the grip angle a lot faster and transfer easily to my G19. Of course, that is also just a good excuse to spend the money on another .22 (I don't need to justify it to anyone but myself, but a good excuse to do so helps).

Glad you are starting to enjoy the .22, one of the cheapest ways to have fun (After the initial firearm purchase). I enjoy all of mine and need to get out and exercise them more often. To many of us the Ruger MKII was and is one of the finest .22s out there, new or old, mine will never leave. I've also got a 317 I carry often when hiking since it weighs nothing.

I don't think I'll get another MkII (though I've seen some at some decent used prices), it is still a pain to disassemble and reassemble for cleaning. While they don't need cleaned often, they do need an occasional cleaning. However, a MkIV is high on my list. In fact, one of the reasons it took me so "long" to get the G44 is that it has been between the G44 and the MkIV for a few months now and was just waiting for me to make a decision between the two. I teach summer school every year, I'll probably use some of my summer school money on the MkIV.

I enjoyed a pair of rather nice MkIIs until I had to sacrifice them at the end of 2020 to pay off a car loan in a hurry. I didn't find them too difficult to take apart but it usually took me a couple trys to get the latch on the backstrap positioned correctly during reassembly. About on par with reinstalling a Ruger DA triggerguard assembly. At the same time as the Rugers I also sold off my CZ 75 and its Kadet rimfire conversion, which really hurt!

Right now my only .22 rimfire autopistols are conversion units atop a Glock 19 (Advantage Arms) and a RIA 1911A1 (Ciener).

However, on this coming Tuesday I'll be collecting a very nice circa-1925 Colt pre-Woodsman at the LGS. That should prove all kinds of fun.

With the aluminum slide .22 conversion installed, the Glock 19 is stupid lightweight and a whole lot of fun to shoot. I hope you'll enjoy your G44 as much!

I love hunting small game with my Ruger MKII 22/45, 4" bbl, really adds to the challenge.

I had the same pistol except it was a target model that had a 6 7/8" slab side bbl, and I had a 4X pistol scope. Like an idiot I sold it..... probably never find another I can afford.

Now I have a Charger with the 4X scope and it's ok, but doesn't balance like the MKII.
