Just in Time for Christmas - Vista Corp. price increases

If you look at the percentages everything described in this letter has increased for last year, or the year before, or the year before that....the % increases would be the same or HIGHER.
So this letter is basically good news. Right?

well I've been playing with Remington primers since I can find some of them...Fiocchi seems to be about a bit for me as well...there is Winchester primers...Hodgdon and Accurate powders are what I've been playing with lately...will I miss CCI? Probably? I've got 4 lbs of Blue Dot that will likely last me to my end days but I am sure that I will find another powder that can do what it does for my powder puff loads in 223, 308 and 30 WCF.

But...I honestly think that the sky won't fall. That the price will spike but come back down. That CCI 250's, 350's and 450's will be plentiful someday soon.
I could be wrong but I still have some hope. And if my hope is shot full of holes then I'll just figure something else out to keep me going. :)

So, Scheels has A 4064 for 40.99 up from 34.99 12 months ago. My puny 10 lbs a year for garand ammo will cost me 60.00 more. Bullets are up from .18 to .27 and primers are .026 from back when. I'll need to pack my lunch for a month. The cost of changing money into noise.

All powder is expensive. That's just where we are right now.
I was in a Sportsman's Warehouse this past weekend and paid $58 for a pound of N540. Still loading them cheaper than I can buy them though.

Price of powder is the cost of doing business. I have some of their powders will probably buy more if needed without concern for pricing. Need what I need when I need it. With this in mind there is less consideration for price. Inflation like the late 70’s is upon us once again. You should see the price I paid for Diesel in Germany yesterday for the rental.

During pre- and heat of Black Friday sales, I was searching powders online and local gun stores in nearby several counties. While I found some Alliant powders I was looking for including AR Comp, but couldn't allow myself to pay $60 for a pound container and put it along with other Alliant powders priced $50/lb back on the shelf. I plan on putting an online order but did pick up new StaBall Match (Winchester's version of Varget) from gun store three counties over to try for 77 gr OTM Mark 262 cloning with RMR 75 gr HPBT.

Inflation and cost of doing business?

During my search with usual vendors like Graf & Sons/Powder Valley/Natchez/MidSouth, etc. I was able to find Titegroup for less than $25/lb and W231/HP-38 for less than $250/8 lbs often with free shipping or HazMat ... These are pricing from like 20-30 years ago - https://www.natchezss.com/reloading/powder?in_stock_only=true&itemsPerPage=36&p=3&sort=price-asc

Graf & Sons is currently selling 8 lbs of Titegroup for $212 ... Yes, $212 for 8 lbs of powder - https://www.grafs.com/retail/catalog/product/productId/5599

While Alliant powders are increasingly coming back in stock but if their pricing is higher than other powders from Hodgdon/Accurate/Ramshot/Winchester/Shooters World and even VhitaVuori (Yes, I found some VV powders actually cheaper than Alliant powders), I anticipate reloaders switching powders.

Yes, I’ve also seen VV for less than Alliant. Here’s the thing: Alliant doesn’t care. They have contract agreements that have to be met for government and foreign sales. We’re last in line because we pay the least and are more fickle. If VV has more powder I’m going to guess (WAG) they also have fewer contracts with government agencies. Either that or Switzerland is outperforming the USA like nobody’s business.

If I were a business owner, you don’t think I would pay attention to all of the people willing to pay scalper prices?

Kind of surprised they put in the 1-7% stuff probably just to fool people into thinking they would only raise their prices 1%. Lol…

Hindsight is 20/20, but i saw this coming. Alliant powder has been slowly tapering off in availability over the last several years. I even joked about how in a couple years, all there would be is CFEpistol and CFE223. In a few local shops (as in local, call it within 100 miles) these 2 powders are sometimes all Ive seen that are even suitable for me. Going on 3 years now. Since...........2020.

If 100 miles is local, cost of gas offsets savings on hazmat & shipping fees. We don’t have anything local but within 100 miles the world is very different—south to Richmond, west to Shenandoah Valley, north to PA (where they sell reloading supplies at roadside stands).

Well, I only stop if I'm passing by while on the road for other affairs. The main places that are within 100 miles of me are Recobs and Midwest Shooters Supply.
Other local shops tend to carry less reloading supplies as time goes on.

You’re still fortunate in my book. Only ”local” selling reloading supplies is Cabelas 35 miles away. And the gun show every couple months IF anyone has stuff.

Not sure I would do that but never been in that situation. Surprised how many small businesses in this area act against their self interest—high prices and poor service. My wife and I speculate due to large population they can make a living just selling to each customer one time.

For sure. Handloader market traditionally has been a relatively small and niche group with a slow, but steady increase in numbers who do it over the years.........but now, I believe the growth in the handloader market is exponential.

It seems that most everything has gone up. Alliant's price increase is probably inline with everything else. Not trying to justify it, and still don't like it, but that seems to be the theme for now! Glad a bought 8# of 2400 recently!
