This gun is in the counter at the shooting range I use. Others on here said it was re-blued, I wouldn't know.
On a Luger the trigger has a "strawed" finish to it (also called "heat bluing") The polished metal part is first heated and as it heats up various colors begin to appear. A faint straw like color followed by various yellow, brown, purple, and blue hues. Then the part is quenched in olive oil giving the part an overall straw colored finish. The temperature needed to obtain the straw color is 430* F.
The straw parts: trigger, takedown lever, magazine release, safety lever, and ejector were used on commercial models that were still available before WWII started. Sometime in 1937 the straw colored parts were replaced with blued ones, probably to speed up production for the German military. By 1942 the Luger production came to an end with Mauser starting to make P38s and continuing to do so right up though 1945.
