Hey everyone,

I'm looking for a new carry gun and I'm really torn between the Ruger SR9c and the Kahr CW9. They both seem nice but I wish the Kahr had a bigger capacity. I would really appreciate some opinions.

I made another thread about the CZ 75 vs the SR9 but I realized that as much as I want a CZ 75 it's not an ideal carry gun. I apologize for making so many threads and the mods can feel free to close/remove the other one.

I am not a gun expert by any means, but I've owned both, and would tell you to pick the one that feels better in your hand. I wound up selling both & got the Bersa BP9cc which I've been very happy with.

I have no experience with the Kahr but I do have an SR9c. It is a pleasure to shoot and comes with a 10 and 17 round magazine.

I do not have any experience with a Ruger SR9c. But my Wife and I both have been carring a CW9 for several years. And we think it is the best for us, I put a Crimson Trace Lazer Sight on both of them. And that makes them even better for us. The CW9 has very quick sights and the trigger is just great. It is very easy to shoot and the recoil is very easy to control. We try to shoot our CW9`s at least twice a month. And We are both really more than satisfied with our CW9`s . And they are very easily conceled in either a ISW,OSW, or in just a pocket with a soft holster. WE shoot them a lot and have never had any problems with either of them. Give the KAHR CW9 a close look and if you can even fire it. I think You will be impressed. Good luck On Your Choice:

I have owned a Kahr CW9 in the past, and traded it in to get the CM9. Both have been 100% reliable, excellent guns. My fiance liked my CM9 so much that it is now her CCW gun, and I purchased a XDs .45 to carry. I wouldn't let her carry it unless I trusted it completely.

My brother has a SR9c and has put around 1000 rounds through it with no issues. I shot it a few times, and found it to be very accurate.

I don't think you would be unhappy with either. I would try to shoot both if possible, or at least handle both.

i would say in XDs but thats not on your list so i would go with the cw9
thats what i was going to get then the xds came out i just got mine back
today shoots just as good as it did when i sent it back for the recall

I have a Ruger SR9c and a Kahr PM9. Like the higher mag capacity and the ergonomics of the SR9c while I also like the more compact and easy to conceal size of the PM9. Try them both if you can and then decide which works and feels the best to you.

The CZ P01 or PCR aren't that much different in carrying than the SR9c. If your thinking compact get the CZ. If you want something smaller for deep concealability then get the
Kahr. Bud's has the PCR for $510, that's a great price.

I have the SR9c and have zero complaints. Almost the perfect defensive carry handgun, in my opinion. Very accurate. Never shot the Kahr.

My wife and I really like our Kahr CW9 with no complaints or regrets. We have the standard 7 round and a couple of 8 round mags for it. We also added a Crimson Trace laser making the great little gun better and tightened up our groups a bunch. Everyone notices the long trigger pull but after getting used to it you'll love the crisp pull making it almost flinch proof. A light weight, single stack, reliable gun right out of the box and lots of fun to shoot. Much cheaper than a lot of 9mmms at around $375 or so.
Never shot the Ruger, but no doubt it would be a great gun too. Whichever fits your hand best. Try to shoot before you buy.
If you can't hit it with 8 or 9 shells, do as Biden says, "get yourself a shotgun". LOL
Hope this helps.

PS. I have since replaced the puncture proof bicycle tube with a factory slip on rubber sleeve.

I previously had a Kahr Pm9. Sold it within the first week of buying my S&W M&P Shield. You should check that out. I know you didn't ask about it - but it is a great gun!

I prefer the Kahr CW9 because of the trigger and the weight. But, the Ruger is a fine gun.

I am strongly based towards Ruger, but I genuinely do like the SR9C better in this comparison. I like the steel Kahr's ok, but I do not care for the polymer version at all. Honestly, it's a subjective thing, but a polymer Kahr's wouldn't even be my fifth or six choice.

Another strong vote for the Ruger. For just a tad more size and weight you get a LOT more firepower, As far as quality... it's subjective. Mine has been nothing short of excellent.

Get the CW9. It is a great weapon IMO.

If a typical person owned both I'd bet the CW9 would get the majority of carries.

Own both, two different guns. Both very good. I carry one and the other is a hd home gun

I can't say which is better as I have never owned or fired the Kahr. But I will add a +1 for the Ruger. Great gun that is unexpectedly accurate for a compact.
Has a nice set of three dot sights, with a decent,"for a polymer",trigger, and fantastic customer service. After 2-3000rds in mine, I sent it in to get inspected over a slight groove developing in the barrel hood. I never had any failure or reliability issues whatsoever, but wanted it looked at to prevent further damage.
Unexpectedly, Ruger fitted it with a new barrel and sent it back on their dime. For me Ruger has overall been superb.
There is only one little issue I have with it. I hate the loaded chamber indicator, as it prevented holstering with one chambered. I ended up taking it off.

I haven't shot the Kahr. I bought an SR9c for the capacity plus it feels right in my hands especially with the longer mag. I keep the 10 round mag loaded as a spare but I'm going to replace it with another 17 round. I have approximately 2000 rounds through mine with no problems.

Don't worry about what othes like . Buy what you like or want. A smaller lighter pistol will offer easier concealment The larger more weight , larger size and more capacity. I don't carry a double stack and mine run from several size's of kahrs to a 1911. I love ashooting my wifes m&p but width is a killer for me. A cm or pm can be a pocket carry . A cw9 makes for a great iwb carry with only a t shirt or tucked in botton down

By the way A PM is my "always" gun. It goes everyware with me, and fit's in every situation I have ever come across. "if that helps". I am 190 lbs and 6 ft tall. An carried for 4 decades. I that time I have tried most every gun mentioned, and the Kahr works for me.
I pocket carry it in jeans, dress pants, or nylon Nilke sports wear, and it hides easily in any of them. There are other guns I like to shoot better, but for a reliable 9mm 8 round gun that fires every time, you can't beat it. Your carry gun doesn't have to be comfortable to shoot 100 rounds through, it is there for emergency reasons. As long as you are accurate with it, and it is reliable, that is the main concern. I can shoot 200 rounds through mine with no problem, and I am in my 60's.

A Old Dog changes...

I am a believer that handguns should be all steel and I want the double strike feature of double action semi autos. I also want a thumb safety on them

One year ago I had rotator cuff surgery which left me only to shoot with my weak hand for several months. My daughter had a new Ruger SR9c so when we went to the range I would shoot it weak hand. Now it is understatement to say my weak hand shooting stinks. Well with the Ruger I had no problems keeping all 10 shots in the black of a bullseye target at 10 & 15 yards.

As they say the proof is in the shooting. SO now I am all steel, double action AND striker fired SR9c fan.
