That is the question. A fellow wants my 1911, and I don't carry it, although its a 45. The emp, I can carry, because of the size, but that is a heavy 40, compared to the 9. I take it they beefed up the entire frame to pick up that much weight, but still lighter than the 45. Do you guys who carry the 40 find it heavy. And how does it shoot,
Last 40 I had was a 23 Glock, and I never took to it. But that EMP looks nice.

Weight difference in the EMP's is due to the .40 having a steel frame, and the 9mm having an Aluminum alloy frame.

I wish they offered the 9mm with a steel frame. My understanding is that +p or +p+ 9mm in the EMP 9 is not recommended. Not 100% sure on that though, but I really liked the weight of the .40, I just wanted the 9.

9 + 1 Rounds seems just about right. ;)

If I had a gun that I did not carry and had chance to trade for a gun that I would carry I would go for it. But then, I much prefer being armed to being unarmed. YMMV.

I can't speak to the 40s&w EMP but the 9mm I had was a great gun. One of the very few guns I've regretted trading.

The EMP has a higher MSRP so if the guns are in comparable condition you will come out ahead monetarily.

I'd go for the EMP, I carry the 9 but I'm also know to carry a full sized 1911 on occasion. A good belt+holster and you won't notice or care about the weight. The EMP is an awesome gun in 9mm or .40, I don't think you'll be dissappointed.

I just love the EMP for carry purposes. If it is a straight up trade of the R1 for the EMP then I would jump at it. Keep the R1 if you want a fun gun for range use. If it is the enhanced R1 then it would make a good full sized carry 1911 as well. If it is the standard R1, then I wouldn't be as quick to slide it into my holster for SD. That's because I want all the upgrades the enhanced R1 offers for carry purposes, which the compact EMP already sports. But that's just me...

A straight trade of a Remington R1 for any Springfield Armory EMP would be a great deal in favor of the EMP...the R1 isn't even in the same class as to fit and workmanship. I just shot the newer R1 Enhanced last Monday as wasn't too impressed either...read about it here

I own and carry a 9mm EMP quite a lot, I've only shot the .40 a few times. I don't think they steel frame of the .40 is worth the difference in caliber...especially for a carry gun

There is no problem with +p in the EMP, it's rated for it. A tiny Kahr is rated for +p and you're worried about an EMP? :p
