Hey guys, Have an interesting question here.

My dad has a few handguns he keeps in an unsecure location, and then he has another one he uses for home defense/concealed carry. I'm referring to the ones in the unsecure location in this post.

I have a good quality gun safe in my room where I keep my long guns, however, he has asked me to put some of the handguns in my safe, but I'm not sure if that would be legal, since in Ohio it's illegal to "Furnish" handguns to someone under 21, and I certainly don't want to break any laws. I turn 21 in April.

I have contacted a few lawyers, and they all want 200-300 dollars before even saying a word.

anyone have some input on this?

You live with your Dad right? It's his house right? According to the rules my parents gave me growing up, "as long as you live in this house, under our rules, you'll by God do what you're told. I brought you into this world, I can take you out.". And that was just Mom! Heheheh. I'd say it's a family safe, put in your room, that he keeps his hand guns in and allows you to store your long guns. Some things the govt doesn't need to know and isn't entitled to know. Especially without a search warrant. Momma still doesn't take crap from nobody! Funny, Dad was the marine, but she was the authority.

Do you somehow have any less access to these unsecured handguns when they are not in your safe?

Just because you store them in a safe in your room doesn't mean they are given to you for your use nor that your access is somehow enhanced.

If you are really worried about such insignificant legal issues just relocate your gun safe to a common area in the house like a hall closet, storage pantry, utility room, etc.

I don't think it would be a problem but if your worried about the legal side of this just call the sheriff's department and ask them any question you want, the one's in my county have been very helpful.

What is this country coming to when you have to consult the local Sheriff on whether or not you can keep a gun in a safe in your own home without being arrested?!?

Asking LEO for legal advice is like asking the guy at JiffyLube to overhaul a NASCAR racing motor.

I'm with the folks who said it's dads house, and dads safe.

If anyone ever asks, which seems pretty unlikely if you don't commit a crime with one of the guns.

You don't even know the combination, cause your dad won't tell you, right? ;)

Lock them in your safe. I can't believe how continuting to keep them unsecured about the house would be seen as a better alternative.
