Kel-Tec S-2000, New Generation at Shot Show

Ho-hum. A new & improved gun that Kel-Tec still isn't going to build in sufficient quantity to keep up with demand so even if I lived someplace it was sold I wouldn't see it in the stores. [yawn]

Of course, being stuck behind the Granola Curtain has some advantages: I don't have to even dream of seeing one in my local Guns 'R Fun emporium... :banghead:

My old sub2k 9mm, Glock mags was a pile of crap. Never could get through a full mag without a hiccup, using Glock mags and good ammo. I agree with above^, they should contract out to Hi Point. I've had 2 of those and they both ran reliably no matter what ammo I threw at them. Heck, my first Hi Point carbine ate a few cases of Wolf laquer steel cased 9mm, when it was $50 per 700rds....

I didn't attend, but a member here mentioned seeing it at the show.

Not enough changes for me to buy a new one. Here's an article on it: http://www.guns.com/2015/01/28/kel-tecs-new-second-generation-sub-2000/

And a video: http://www.glocktalk.com/forums/showpost.php?p=21890844&postcount=26

And another one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PejpS1R8oSU&app=desktop
Well, if they are as available as the "old" Sub 2K's were, we should start to see some in the stores, oh, 2022 or so ....

My Sub2000 has been reliable with everything I've fed it, including cheap, but dirty, Wolf ammo. As a left handed shooter, my only complaint is the dirt and sparks the Wolf ammo shoots out the ejection port into my face.

Love my S2K.

If you listen to what the guy's saying in the youtube video, the way this new gen2 is made/designed will greatly help the speed at which it can be made. Something about the old one needing to have all the plastic parts hand-trimmed and this one doesn't.

Do tell? Kel-Tec finally invested in a blow-molder? [Misnomer, since they use vacuum, not pressure, but oh well, what'r'ya'gonnado?]

Too bad in this "improved" version Kel-Tec still can't figure out how to build the stock without having a dozen exposed screw heads.

I would be interested in the new one, my Beretta mag SUB-2000 shoots great. I can't say it was perfect out of the box, it needed some trimming on several plastic parts so they really fit together correctly. Oh well, it gave me some education from working on it. A friend of mine has a Glock mag one that isn't quite as good as mine is, and the Glock mags cost a lot more than the cheapo ugly surplus (I got six 15 round ones for $25) and off brand ($6) Beretta 92 mags mine uses without issues.

I never thought I'd want a sub 2000 but after a coworker made me a great deal on a never fired specimen with a couple 33 round Glock mags, I jumped on it.
It's proven 100% reliable with everything I've tried so far and it's accurate to boot. Now, I find it difficult to get any decent check weld and the recoil was a bit more than I was expecting (nothing punishing, just surprising).

Overall, I love the darn thing. It's the handiest little carbine I can imagine owning.

Mine has been reliable, fun to shoot. Amazing how quick it will go through ammo. It has fed anything I put in it including many different reloads. Even my 'range' loads are at .357 magnum speeds. I have some 115gr Ranger Ts, +P+, nearly 1600fps, that will get someone's attention. It's a great 'car' gun, the folding allows me to stash it pretty well in case the zombie apocalypse happens while I'm on the road!

Don't care about all the rails....but sure want one. Folding is what makes it better than the other pistol carbines. That convenience alone keeps me wanting one. Thanks for posting.

I want one, maybe 2... They fixed what needed fixin'

First let me say that I have a sub 2k that I bought with about a $150 worth of extras on it. The best upgrade was the Red lion Front sight that is a lot like the new improved sight. When I got it, it was not reliable but I was able to make it reliable with a little tweeking. It is now extremely reliable and a bunch of fun to shoot. Here is what I consider to be the problems with the original version. Lets see if they fixed all or most of them.
1)Flimsy plastic front sight- Replaced with adjustable aluminum Ar style sight.
2)Ejection port needed trimming to run reliably- Fixed opened up %40
3)Original grip opened up when inserting mag- Fixed new grip design
4)No good way to add a sling-Fixed with a variety of options
5) No easy way to attach optics- Fixed by adding picatinny rails top and bottom and slots on side for mag-pul sections
6) Short length of pull- Fixed with new adjustable stock.
7) Low sight axis- Fixed
Bonus- They added a threaded barrel to make it easy to add a suppressor.

What they may not have fixed.
1) in order to make my 9mm run reliably I had to cut the spring. Apparently they used the same recoil sping for the 9mm and the 40 S&W. I hope they changed this.

What they didn't do......

Offer a model chambered in 45 ACP or 10mm or 357 sig. I don't know why they couldn't at least offer a 45 acp version.

Note: Ireally like the look of their Bullpup RDB. Does anyone know what these are going to cost?

I've enjoyed my Sub2K. 40 S&W, Glock mag version. Mine came with 10 and 22 rnd mags. It's been very reliable through 200 rounds, not a single malf. It has the original clearish orange front sight which is the only negative thing I have to say of it. But even with that it's very accurate for what it is (I mean softball size pine cones at 40 yards).

I'm just going by what the Kel-Tec rep talks about in the youtube vid that's linked in the original post. At ~3:03 he starts talking about 'a totally different mold' with regards to the receiver and how it will help with manufacturing times.
