Good article explaining the pitfalls of one of the two knife owner protection bills currently in Congress.

It makes it clear that not only does the Knife Rights bill do away with the Federal restriction on automatic knifes it also learned from the weaknesses discovered in FOPA where the AKTI does neither. H.R. 84 is the Knife Rights bill.

That being the case I suggest we support the H.R. 84 bill by getting everyone on board, posting near and far on Face Book, Twitter and Instagram and pushing Congresscritters to support the bill. Please forward this and the Ammoland article to everyone you know encouraging them to support H.R. 84 and then call and email your Congesscritter telling them you and your friends and family expect them to not only support H.R. 84, but to sign on and sponsor it to protect working voters who carry knives as part of their day to day lives.

It's funny, because of all the political issues I think are important, I never expected that we'd see so much pure winning on knives.

Probably because the 'other side' doesn't really consider it an issue, I guess.

It took two years of effort in TN to remove knife restrictions and get preemption in place, Georgia still has a blade length restriction after two attempts to remove it and Knife Rights has been working in Texas since 2013 chipping away at restrictions and you still can't legally carry a Bowie (state's you'd think were a snap of the fingers for 2A rights) so, no, it isn't because there's no opposition. Until the tiny little Knife Rights organization gets there and completes their work every state is usually a tattered rag quilt of individual local laws on blade length, shape and locking and opening mechanism as well as restrictions on how you may or may not carry all overlaid on the state law restricting blade length, shape locking and opening mechanism and how you carry a knife. The laws are so illogical and little known that most people don't know the knife in their pocket is illegal to carry from the time they leave their home to the time they return AND is likely illegal in different ways depending upon where they go during the day. In addition to the state restrictions, your county has one set of restrictions, the city another and the town adjacent to the city may have a third. You literally can be violating multiple laws and think you're just carrying a pocket knife going to work, shopping, visiting and coming home. The fact that most people are unaware of these laws until they're arrested (like thousands have been in NYC for carrying a knife securely clipped to their pocket or one that can be opened by a trained LEO with flip that you or I couldn't).

Knife Rights is working in MN to remove the restrictions on automatic knives which are not legal...yet.;)
Knife Rights’ bill to remove the ban on switchblade (automatic) knives in Minnesota, HF2567, has been introduced by Representative Joe Hoppe. The bill would remove “a switch blade knife opening automatically” from Minnesota statute 609.66(1).

I'm not trying to minimize the work that Knife Rights and AKTI do, it is an incredible amount of work to roll back 200 years of accumulated knife laws, I'm just saying it would be way harder if there was a meaningful anti-knife lobby.

You're correct, there's no nationally organized anti knife 2A effort yet, but we can look to the 1950's and the switchblade ban for the kernel of our own AWB.

Right now in NYC you can't safely carry a one hand opening knife without risking a gravity knife charge nor carry a knife clipped to your pocket without risking being charged. Travelers to any state face blade length limits that make no sense where they live and there are myriad states that restrict opening and locking mechanism. Local politicians play local political games opposing loosening restrictions as well.

I hope we don't see millionaire money thrown against us since Knife Rights is a tiny underfunded organization and couldn't stand up to that opposition.
