Utility: SAK Tinker, SAK Champion, LM Wave or LM Juice S2 depending on attire and where I am headed. Small thin SAK indoors. Champ to gun shows for the magnifying glass, LMs outdoors.
Field fixed blade: Fallkniven A1 or F1 or new BKT 7. I also take the LM Wave.
Field axe: No chopping or hammering with my knives. I have a fairly spartan one of these on order.
After years of being a bit of a knife snob I`m actually using a cheap $19.95 Kershaw Vapor for my daily work knife and a Vapor 2 for a general knock about knife. Yeah the steel sucks and I have to sharpen them often but their geometry is really good, the frame locks are rock solid and they`re very thin so they carry nice. A couple passes on a ceramic rod and they`re hair poppin sharp again. My "dress knife" is a Spyderco Calypso Jr. Lightweight, not too dressy I know. For general field use I have a 5" blade Rob Crisswell Barracuda II custom fixed blade or if I fell like going retro a 3.5" blade hand forged (by me) fixed blade I based on a 9th century Norse EDC. For HD field use and chopping I have a variety of Khukuris and Bowies from Ghurka House, HI,EDMF and another of my own hand mades,a bowie that resembles a cross between a Tim Britton Terminator and a Battle Mistress. It`s got a zone hardened 13" full convex ground blade made from 5/16" thick 5160. Marcus
Here's what's in my pocketses almost all the time. Small Sebenza; SwissTech MicroTechnician stored in a box of storm matches; Arclight Arc-LS with red Photon II and 10 feet accessory line.
Defense: Cold Steel XL Voyager, fully serrated Tanto point. I hope I never hafta use a kinfe in defense, but if I do, this is the one I hope I have with me
GP: used to be my CRKT M16-03 in carbon fiber, but MY WIFE THREW IT AWAY!!!!! .......ok, better now. Yeah, she threw it away by accident:banghead: , so I am looking for a good replacement
Sentimental value: unknown manufacturer 3-blade. It was one of my grandfather's daily carry knives. Bone scales, a broken blade, and has been sharpened beyond all real utility, but it doesn't matter.
Defense - No way in hell. I don't do knife fighting, not now, not ever. I've never understood why people carry knives as defensive tools; they're terrible for it.
Utility - A little CRKT M16-03, a Leatherman Wave, or both for daily carry. For heavy outdoor use, I may add a Mad Dog ATAK.
I have a CRKT that I rarely carry...its so expensive I don't like to use it.
At work I carry a Gerber Wal Mart special, its saved my but a couple of times though....you see, there was this time when we had a new can of coffee but no can opener....the horror on all of those officers faces was disconcerting....out comes the Gerber to save the day. Now i gotta take a diamond stone to it.
Im a major knife nut, so theres no way I can narrow this down to a few permanant choices, but I can narrow it down to my current choices.
Everyday utility - benchmade griptillian
classy/dress occasion - benchmade 941ti
defense - spyderco native III
woods folder - crkt hawk dog
woods combo - still searching for the ONE, but currently sog field pup and gransford bruk hatchet
high school legal - spyderco navigator - (my sister is still in highschool, this is something I can wear to her school events)
multitool is either a leatherman juice c2 or a wave depending on if Im at work or school.
EDC: Elishewitz Shadow
Abuse/Outdoor: Cold Steel Trailmaster
Just because I wanted one: Randall #2 Stiletto
Next Purchase: Strider MTL with Paracord wrap (falls under just because I want one category).
