OK, so let me get this straight, Bush reads a book to kids for 7 minutes after he was told a plane accidentally hit the WTC and it's an indictment. Kofi remains on a ski vacation for THREE DAYS after the worst disaster in recent history, and that's OK...

Wonder if Michael Moore is going to do a 'documentary' on this...

Q: Mr. Secretary, picking up on Richard's question, I think a lot of people are asking exactly why you waited three days on vacation in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, before you decided to fly back to New York in the face of this extraordinary crisis. Could you give us a full explanation of your thinking on that? Secondly, what kind of signal does that 72-hour delay send to the nations to which you are now appealing for greater help?

SG: First of all, there was action. It wasn't inaction. We live in a world where you can operate from wherever you are. You know the world we live in now. You don't have to be physically here to be dealing with the leaders and the Governments I have been dealing with. You don't have to be physically here to be discussing with some of the agencies that we have done.

I came back here because we have reached a level that I wanted to have meetings with all the people that I have met with today. So, we have taken action. And I don't have to be sitting in my office to take action. I think the same goes for you in your profession.

The UN is irrelevant; they slowly became so during the 90’s as Iraqi flaunted the UN resolutions. After 9/11 they slid again further into geopolitical irrelevancy, no one really cares anymore is what is so funny yet ironic about the UN and it’s current place in the world.

It’s nothing more than a gentleman’s club for rich worldly types who have nothing else better to do than go to South Africa, attending a world conference on hunger and have Japan Air Lines fly in fish at the cost of $700.00 a pound.

Or attend a conference on the child sex trade in Thailand only to have a sizable number of staff busted for being serviced by child prostitutes.

Everyone knows that in the past 4 years they have become what the set out to replace, the league (of extraordinary useless) nations.

It’s just not the time to call it as much, what I believe is happening, especially with the Bush acknowledgement of a non-UN body leading the world response to this incident is the first set, by this administration to use the world stage and response to crisis such as this as a way to slowly distance us from the UN.

But Ms Short said the effect of the parallel coalition would be to undermine the UN.

Yes, half a million people may well be dead, but let's get our panties in a bunch over percieved "undermining of the U.N."

Power struggle over crisis response? If that's not an indication of how corrupt everything has become, I don't know what is. The patients are still running the asylum.

Good find. I didn't see any of the "news" networks pick up that Kofi was in Jackson Hole.

I didn't either, Rick. You don't suppose Kofi met with James Wolfensohn, president of the World Bank? J-Hole is home to him, Dick Cheney (on a selective, part-time basis), the Rockefellers and other assorted demigods who live there ocassionally.
