Was at Cabelas yesterday, picked up a Kimber Micro 9. Salesman asks if I need ammo, I told him always, you have any. He said let me get you a couple boxes. I said at what price, he smiles and says I'll tell you when I come back. Puts 2 boxes of Blazer Brass on the counter and says $14.99 box. They keep some in back for people buying guns. Another clerk walks by and says DON'T buy a lottery you already hit it.

Oh I could shoot. Just no reason to burn home inventory when ammo is available at reasonable prices. But I do agree with you point on "new" shooters. Been watching basic brass cased 9mm go on auction sites for $40-50 a box of 50. No way would I pay $1 a round for 9mm

Scheel's is doing much the same, except I was only offered one box of .38 Special when I bought a new S&W revolver from them. I think it might be becoming pretty much standard practice among many gun retailers. OTOH, Cabela's didn't offer me any .223 ammo when I bought a new bolt-action Howa 1500 from them. So ... YMMV.

AND SAVE YOUR BRASS !!
Ask around and you will find somebody who reloads (if YOU don't) and will give you a discount on their reloads for your brass in trade. Or you might get them to reloads a specific load with your brass.

Good on Cabela's! As I wrote in an earlier post, Sportsman's Warehouse did the same for me when I bought a Ruger "American Rimfire" .22 for my wife's birthday back in October. When I bought it, the salesman ask me if I needed any ammo, and I said, "Why? You don't have any anyway." And he replied, "Oh, we have some in the back for people who buy guns."
I figure we have enough .22LR to see us through this "ammo crises," so I didn't take any. But it's nice to know keeping ammo "in the back for people who buy guns" is the policy at some gunstores.:)

I bought a Kimber Micro 9 earlier this year. I like the gun, it’s made well, fitted nicely snd was 100 pct reliable with fmj and critical defense.

I bought a couple of spare mags from CDNN snd I have it loaded up as a spare edc gun.

Stay safe..

What is probably allowing Cabela's to sell you that ammo at $14.99 is that they bought it on a pre-negotiated price and delivery contract. Once those contracts have been fulfilled, they will have to sell at the usual market margin.

Selling reloads without a license is illegal. I have given mine away to folks in need, but selling them is a big no-no. And you better be really, really confident that you didn't mess anything up to be letting other folks shoot your re-loads.

Saw in another thread that a guy bought a box of factory ammo at inflated prices, then discovered that the ammo was actually reloaded. The small gun shop where he bought it was running a scam. They are going to hate life pretty soon.

.223 might be unicorn ammo - doesn't exist.
Just got a pre order offer from SG. $689 for a 1000rd case of nato 62 gr. No thanks...
A lgs around here has brass and steel cased .223 in stock , prices aren't very attractive , but they do have it.

@ford8nr congratulations on the new Kimber. I hope you enjoy it. So glad that these companies and gun shops are setting aside ammo to feed their gun sales. And at near normal prices.

I saw a box of RNL .38 for for $125/50. Absolutely idiotic.

I was at Cabela's last Saturday, and they had .223 for $11 a box of american eagle. I have plenty of .223, but I bought a box of .45 acp 230gr hollow points, 50 rounds for $32

I don't think this is consistent as I bought a new 9mm pistol from Cabella's near me a month ago and when I asked if they had any ammo, the guy selling me the gun just laughed.

Maybe my store got a shipment.
On a side note my local Fleet Farm had Sig 9mm ammo for $21 bx limit 2

So if you buy reloading dies, do you get access to a sleeve of primers... maybe two if you're lucky?
