Got off my keester for Labor Day and finally made myself an all-weather standing-height shooting table using a piece of leftover 30"X20" granite from the kitchen remodel 5 years back. The granite was the non-expensive part, but Menard's sure values those posts and angle iron! Took the pictures before I cut off the over-long angle iron (didn't want to run into that accidentally on a riding mower!), but it's all done now. Tested with a factory stock 10/22 carbine just to see where I wanted the height. Those posts are all 2+ into the ground so it might last through a Kansas windy day or two. It's 60 yards and a mild drop from the front of that table to the target stand below. About 100 feet from the back door to the table. Best part, height and angle are adjustable until the 5/16" bolts rust solid. What's your Labor Day like?

It looks sturdy. If it were mine I would cut the post tops off flush with the top and at a 45 degree angle down, because, sure as shootin', I would hang either me or a gun on one of them either drawing blood or a temper tantrum involving crude language. :D

Stainless bolts are readily available around here eliminating the rust problem. To be honest it is sometimes cheaper to order more than you actually need off ebay than to buy only what you need at the local stores.

Or: Square caps

Perfect, HPS1, thank you! Ordered a package of 4 for $3.99 thirty seconds after I saw your message.

Double H, thought about cutting them off, but want to keep the flexibility to raise another inch in case I grow.;) At my age, however, it's more likely I'll shrink, have to lower them, and then just have to cut them off again. And yes, I thought about stainless and then forgot while I was searching the nuts and bolts isle. Hard enough to find the right length zinc ones. Sprayed them with WD40 anyway.

Had the brainstorm to buy a mailbox big enough to hold a couple of sandbags and some spare ear plugs and a pencil and pad and whatever else I would forget and attach it to the side. I'll follow up with a picture when I do that.

Sweet! I love repurposed scrap! Nicely done, way to think ahead. Looks great, should be very solid, and that top will be there.

I saved two pieces of heavy thick stone countertop from our Lab remodel at the hospital. I made a table for my little hobby lathe from one, still have one left.

It's right behind the red grinder.
