I have a good bit of range pickup, 223/556, Lake City 2019 brass.

Can you guys tell me what ammo manufacturer made this ammo? Brand and brand "pet name" if you guys know it. I'm guessing Federal for the brand, given the year stamp...

Thanks!!

Yeah. It is good brass. My understanding is that Winchester took over the Lake City plant in October of 2020. So I'm thinking this 2019 brass was probably when Federal was running it, and these were one of their loads??

I measured them at an average of 31.4 grains of water, I believe it was. ( Have to check my notes on that...)

For purposes of sorting, Lake City is it's own headstamp. It's the toughest, and nearly the most consistent brass you can pick up.

Lake City Munitions Plant is owned by the US Government and is the primary manufacturer of small arms ammunition for our military.

It is good quality brass. You’ll just need to make sure to remove the primer pocket crimp before reloading

Made by lake city, think Winchester is running things now. It's some of the best brass out there. Has high case volume and is hard.
I notice that immediately when converting LC 223 to 300 blk out since I don't like compressed loads, Iirc Hornady is next highest for the 300.

LC .223 brass is definitely my preferred brass. It's pretty darn consistent, tough, and sizes/loads well for me. I sorted by year to do some "MK262" loads and have been able to get down to .5-.7moa with it. It's the good stuff!

I have all my LC brass stashed separately and take good care of it. Pretty much just use that Head Stamp and leave the rest for armageddon.

I would do the same for Starline but I never find any.....think I found two, under a rock.

Interesting pretty recent story about the Lake City Ammo Plant.

I have always liked LC brass regardless of who held the contract. A little history:

"Remington Arms operated the plant from its inception until 1985, when operations were taken over by the Olin Corporation. From April 2001, it was operated by Alliant Techsystems (ATK), later known as Orbital ATK after a 2015 merger between Orbital Sciences Corporation and parts of Alliant Techsystems. Orbital ATK was acquired by Northrop Grumman in 2018 and is now known as Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems. Starting in October 2020, Winchester Ammunition was selected by the US Army to operate and manage the Lake City Plant".

The above quote taken from the Wikipedia. :) Northrop Grumman is a key player within the Department of Defense as I worked with quite a bit of their stuff the last 25 years of my career with Navy Nuclear Program.

I haven't seen significant differences in the LC brass over the years. Like others said, it's a US government plant and whoever is running it at a given time. Olin, ATK, etc, makes it to the same specs as always. So, it's consistently good.
Lapua is good also, but expensive.

I have a fair amount of LC brass also. Are all LC primer pockets crimped?

I have a ton of LC brass, but I don't reload. I need to get this brass back in action. I'm told the lake city stuff can be reloaded as many as 8 times...

Not all, I have LC 17 and LC 18 I bought from Grafs or Midsouth a couple years ago . It came new/unprimed for $ 13.99 per 100 ,I bought a bunch and wish I had bought more . Virgin LC brass is nice to work with , I have 1000s of crimped LC 1x fired stuff brass , I mess with those over the winters .

Thx for the replies. Guess I’ll sort it and crimp the pockets on them them.

You can ream them or swage them but I don't think you want to crimp them. :) Reaming removes metal and swaging relocates metal. I have reamed just using a #2 Phillips screwdriver bit in an electric drill. Either method will remove a crimp.

Um... I'm the OP here, and the question wasn't about the quality, usefulness, nor anything like that.

The question is what company used Lake City 2019 brass for their commercial ammo, and what was it called?? Examples: Federal Fusion, Winchester White box, Remington Core Lokt, Federal Blazer, etc., etc. (These names are generic examples only of what I'd like to find out about this LC-19 brass.)

What company loaded commercially sold ammo in Lake City 2019 brass, and what was it called??

Thanks!

Since Winchester didn't take over until well after 2019, (October, late 2020), I'm assuming this LC-19 brass had been loaded by Federal. What did Federal call it??? What was it "branded" so to speak? "American Eagle" maybe? What other possible names??

Thanks again,
Vettepilot

You are right. I forgot about new brass. I also bought some new LC .308 a few years ago that was uncrimped. Logic would indicate that the crimp is applied after the case is primed at the factory

All the Federal "american eagle" 5.56x45mm in 55gr & 62gr green tips I bought a couple years ago was LC brass. All the .223 was FC headstamp.
