Anyone know of a company producing a double barrel BP pistol of a caliber in the .69 or .72 range. A buddy of mine has an original English cavalry pistol in his collection and I was wandering if there were any repros out there. My buddies is circa 1820s .72 cal with attached ramrods. Coolest old school gun i've ever seen. And while we broke a major rule of gun safety we just had to look at that gun from the unfreindly end. It was one of the scariest damn sights i've ever seen. Those barrels are huge.

Any input would be appreciated.

Any foreseeable consequences and repercussions to cutting down a 12ga muzzleloading shotgun and chopping the stock. It would look very similiar and would probably handle about the same. We're both interested in seeing what it was like to fire without having to possibly damage an antique.

I know I've seen 50 cal double pistols, but not a 69 or larger.. I'll look around tonight and let you know.

The one pictured at gunsamerica looks pretty close to the one my bud has. Picture the one on guns america with 12" barrels and a stock that is a bit beefier and you got it. I wouldn't mind having the one pictured, but if I spend almost $1,300 for a BP the missus will be the first to try it out. ON ME!

The one I'm after is: http://www.antiquarian-bygones.co.uk/page36.html

Percussion double barrel Indian Army ‘ Howdah’ pistol, heavy, side by side barrels of .577 enfield calibre. Dating from mutiny period. £350

I suppose you could cut down a double percussion shotgun, but they're not cheap either, and you'd probably need to reweld or bend the frame to get a pistol-like grip angle? I don't know of anyone who makes a working reproduction, although Bowen Classic Arms is buying up originals. Dixie has a single barrel 12ga pistol; http://www.dixiegunworks.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_92&products_id=2016

Barrel is 12 gauge, armory bright, 8†tapered octagon, smoothbore, .730 diameter. Percussion ignition, musket cap, single shot. Features steel furniture, color casehardened lock, trigger & triggerguard. Sling swivel on forearm and butt. 14â€overall and weighs 6 ¼ lbs. Manufactured by Palmetto/Italy.

It's not really as nifty as a double though.

I forsee it recoiling and hitting you in the face when you fire it. :D Legally, it would be fine in most states.
