Largest shot size for a full choke

I shoot a Remington 870 Express, 28 inch barrel with Remington Factory Xtra Full (.687) Turkey Choke, shooting Federal Premium Vital-Shok 3 Inch Magnum #4 Buckshot 41 Pellets Copper Plated. During one pattern testing the above combination put 100% of the pellets inside 30 inches at 40 yards, and 20 of those 41 pellets went inside a paper plate.

I have not shot a yote with that setup yet, but I trainwrecked a thieving raccoon shoplifting corn from a deer feeder one night :).

IME the copper plated shot responds better to tight choking than the plain lead shot, unless hard cast like GooseGestapo mentioned. But like most things involving shotguns your shotgun and mine are different, and yours might shoot like gangbusters with plain lead buckshot and a full or tighter choke. To echo what was mentioned earlier most of the old timers hunting deer with shotguns where I grew up in East Texas swore by #1 Buckshot from Modified or Full chokes.

Also, once upon a time Remington offered a shotgun in their Law Enforcement line called the 870P Tower Gun, designed for prison perimeter/recreation yard use from guard towers. It was a Remington 870P with a 30 inch fixed full choke barrel to minimize 00 Buckshot spread shooting into crowded rec yards.

Just my .02,
LeonCarr
