I've got an 1898 LC Smith Grade 3 with nice engraving but the barrels are pitted and the furniture is broken. The sidelocks work and look good as well as the frame. I realize it's only useful as a parts gun, but don't know where I should go to get a decent price. The LC Smith collectors site prohibits sales. Would Numrich give me a fair price if I took a chance sending it to them? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I would not send it to Numrich right away. I did sell some gun parts to them a while ago and although I received what I thought was a fair price at the time, for the parts you have mentioned I would expect you could do better posting them on various websites. I would list the parts with pictures on various sites such as this and see what happens. Worst is that no one would be interested ( I don't expect that to be the case) and you could then send them in to Numrich. Good Luck!!!

Would you recommend trying to sell the shotgun as a whole parts gun or disassembling it and selling the parts individually?

I would be interested as a parts gun. I missed a shot at a highly modified Elsie a while back. I know the guy that got it and it's certainly one of the sweetest shooters I have ever touched. Been looking for a donor gun to do some similar work to it.

I'm working 12 hours tomorrow, but I can take some photos of it Monday and either post them on here or send them directly to you

Scott, since your so low on post count and aren't yet allowed to use the classifieds section, my advice is to find a site your comfortable posting it on and then send folks a link if they express interest.

What part of the country are you in?

Maybe a parts gun to you, but to some a platform for a great new gun.

There are people that can restore this gun to like new condition with new barrels and stocks,

I agree, it has beautiful engraving and from what I've read Grade 3's aren't so easy to come by. Would be great to see it restored. I saw one a few years ago in a "fine guns" dealer identical shotgun with the chain Damascus barrels but in mint condition. The price tag was $30,000. Damn shame the original owner of mine didn't realize what they had and care for it accordingly.
