How are the new Ruger LCP II's?

image.jpg

They look cool but are they actually an improvement over the older LCP I's? I kind of want one for a deep concealment BUG gun. Anybody actually own one or have seen/fired one? How is the recoil? I know the slide locks back on these. One thing I'm not crazy about is the extended finger rest magazines. I wonder if you can change those basepads out?

I handled one on the local shop, it feels "quite a bit" bigger than the original. I'm going to stick to my second gen LCP1s.

But...I was told you can use the flush fit magazines from the the LCP1 in the LCP2. Don't know about changing base plates, but that accomplishes the same thing I think.

I am in the market for one but can't find any locally to get my hands on. They don't look that much bigger but the trigger guard and magazine floor plate look obnoxiously large compared to the original. Maybe I should jump on the <$200 LCP I while I still can. Does anyone know if they will continue production of the original?

No idea what their long term plans are, but for now they're still listed on the Ruger website. They removed the Mark IIIs when the Mark IVs went up, so I'm assuming that at least for now the 2nd gen LCP 1s are still being produced. Perhaps they'll keep them around like they do the LC9 alongside the LC9S.

From Ruger.com...
"I want to buy an LCP, but can't find one. Is Ruger making them?
Yes, we are making the LCP pistols. The LCP has been very successful in the marketplace and the demand is very high, resulting in limited availability." - http://ruger.com/service/faqs.html

See I don't know if I should go with the older, cheaper LCP-I or this new job. The new LCP-II is cool looking and if it's the better gun, than I want it. Cost doesn't really matter. I'm looking for the more effective defensive pistol.

This month's American Rifleman has a fairly thorough review of the LCP II. The article lists some advantages, or at least differences between the original and the new one: Better sights, lighter trigger pull (says original was 10#+, new is around 6#), articulated blade safety in trigger, ala Glock and desirable because of the lighter pull, last round hold open (mags are interchangeable but only new mags in new gun hold open), backstrap is slightly wider to absorb recoil. Package includes a pocket holster and a flush fitting baseplate to switch out with the finger extension. AR says and I paraphrase, the LCP II is a big improvement in shootability - sights and trigger especially. Article also says the LCP is not being discontinued.

There's an ad in the AR listing the II at $279 and the LCP at $199.99.

Hmm... well that all sounds good EXCEPT the wider backstrap... sure hope that doesn't mean "wider grip" as that will take away some of the gun's concealability. I am very glad they include a flat magazine base as I am not a fan of the extended finger rest ones.

I prefer long double action pull on pocket guns. The bottom line is can it be carried w/o holster in pocket or duffel bag w/o going off. This appears to have Glock like trigger. There were instances of folks carrying such pistols in worn holsters and there were incidents of them going off. I would hate to ruin pair of good Hugo Boss slacks, Gucci shoes,.... and endure painful flash burn or worse.

I have one and have shot it a few rounds, it is easier to shoot than the original and easier to see the sights, a little bigger in the pocket, wife likes it because it is the only semi I have that she can rack the slide on.

I have one and also the LCP custom. Trigger is nice. Pistol is nice but I shoot the custom better. Maybe its the taller sights? Both have been flawless. The LCP II I seem to shoot to the left. A LEO friend of mine does too. About 1 1/2 - 2 inches to the left at 7 yrds. My wife on the other hand shoots it just fine. I put a white dot on the front post as it was really hard to see.
