Lead fouling ?

"lubrisizer"?

I don't think its a tumble lube :D

Since you want to be done with it, I will to.

In summary :

Follow dem links he posted ! I do encourage everyone to read it !

IF you can't get your load worked up correctly , or are in the process of working it up correctly, and need to get that lead out at the range- The short OR full length gas check will do the job.

They're also great at preventing that nasty gas-cutting you get when you use cheap and soft readily available alloys like wheelweights for full tilt mag loads. Or for driving even softer lead as hollowpoints, or any of other number of reasons you might need them.

I'd also like to point out that using a properly applied gas check not only eliminates any actual obturation

^^^ That was incorrect, you're right. "you got me cletus......... *falls over dead* " I'll provide the full length correct answer next time. I can't even claim it was the wine, as at 3:08 I was at work. Maybe I was taking someones payment, and typing on thr at the same time.

*hands you the bushel of praise*

I stand corrected.

Gas checks are not required for use at pistol pressures/velocities if you are willing to do the work to fit them to your gun.

If you aren't willing to do that work, or are going 40k+ PSI or 1700+ FPS get gas-checked bullets, and nary a leaded bore will you have.

That part is correct.

Think of a gas-check as a 2mm long bullet jacket

It not only seals the bore against gas blowby,

Also Good.

but serves kinda like a scraper, removing all that lead and bullet lube from the rifling on each shot.

Seems to be in dispute- but works like a charm for me.

I'm sorry it doesn't for you.

And last but certainly not least :

I'm glad you've appointed yourself as the internet wide Shooting Forums Hall Monitor. You have a lot of work ahead of you!

Thats me, standing up for a little common sense and decency when we're under the friggin microscope every dang day, regarding every single thing we do and say. Hangin around here for a bit taught me that the last part is pretty important- so I took notes, and try to carry on that standard.

I'll keep doing it, bein that guy. You can keep punchin me- It didn't stop me in gradeschool, its certainly not anymore effective now.

Much like our actual issue here over the obturation- what you say and how you say it is important. How you get perceived is part of that result, and that perception colors those around you- regardless of whether you believe it to be true or not.

I think it'd be awesome if we could get the information and conversation we need regarding RKBA without all the rest of the baggage. THR is great for that- most of the rest of the internet.......isn't.

Thats why a lot of folks gravitate here, and end up staying.

Why we'd send them back afield is beyond me, but thats WAY beyond the scope of this thread.

I'll apologize now for derailing it in that direction over a few grains of copper.

While its been a great read and kind of comical in some senses.
I will say that all the info has been helpful, I've read the from cast to ingot thingy, and found it to contain good info with a bunch of scientifically geared mojo that was way too in depth that clouded my mind.

I appreciate this forum and the members, as the friendliness and helpful advise or info is always shared in a good manner. I consider this to be my forum home due to these factors. I've tried two other places and didn't like the way the responses came across as sarcastic or bashing cause my questions are sometimes viewed as beginner or DUH DO YOU KNOW HOW TO READ a manual!
I consider myself to be a fast learner in most things I take on, I'm never above or below asking or answering questions. Sometimes I ,like others need a little piece of mind knowing that we are understanding a topic or going about it safely.

People here are from all walks of life and interpret or understand things differently, I am from the BACKWOODS / BAYOUS of Louisiana, proud of it too :neener: so again thank you all for the info, be safe and enjoy life.

Just buy some chore boy copper cleaner. It cleans my leading up with little effort. I don't worry about leading anymore.

But this does not mean gas checks "push" lead out of barrels. If this were true, then gas checked, cast bullets would never lead a barrel, which they do. Read Chapter 10 of From Ingot to Target: A Cast Bullet Guide for Handgunners
Read the link and didn't find what you were suggesting. But I would hazard a guess that an undersized GC'd bullet could cause fouling. Or a worn out barrel might have problems, too.

I shoot GC'd bullets out of my rifles. Even if I exceed 1800fps, there's no leading to speak of in the bore. Even though the bullets won't stay on the target anymore, and the muzzle brake turns silver from being coated in lead, and the gas tube plugs up, the bore is still spotless. This makes me think a GC, like a jacketed bullet, does "scrape" or push lead out of the bore - at least when the fit is right, and the bore is good.
