I don't think its a tumble lube
Since you want to be done with it, I will to.
In summary :
Follow dem links he posted ! I do encourage everyone to read it !
IF you can't get your load worked up correctly , or are in the process of working it up correctly, and need to get that lead out at the range- The short OR full length gas check will do the job.
They're also great at preventing that nasty gas-cutting you get when you use cheap and soft readily available alloys like wheelweights for full tilt mag loads. Or for driving even softer lead as hollowpoints, or any of other number of reasons you might need them.
I'd also like to point out that using a properly applied gas check not only eliminates any actual obturation
^^^ That was incorrect, you're right. "you got me cletus......... *
falls over dead* " I'll provide the full length correct answer next time. I can't even claim it was the wine, as at 3:08 I was at work. Maybe I was taking someones payment, and typing on thr at the same time.
*
hands you the bushel of praise*
I stand corrected.
Gas checks are not required for use at pistol pressures/velocities if you are willing to do the work to fit them to your gun.
If you aren't willing to do that work, or are going 40k+ PSI or 1700+ FPS get gas-checked bullets, and nary a leaded bore will you have.
That part is correct.
Think of a gas-check as a 2mm long bullet jacket
It not only seals the bore against gas blowby,
Also Good.
but serves kinda like a scraper, removing all that lead and bullet lube from the rifling on each shot.
Seems to be in dispute- but works like a charm for me.
I'm sorry it doesn't for you.
And last but certainly not least :
I'm glad you've appointed yourself as the internet wide Shooting Forums Hall Monitor. You have a lot of work ahead of you!
Thats me, standing up for a little common sense and decency when we're under the friggin microscope every dang day, regarding every single thing we do and say. Hangin around here for a bit taught me that the last part is pretty important- so I took notes, and try to carry on that standard.
I'll keep doing it, bein that guy. You can keep punchin me- It didn't stop me in gradeschool, its certainly not anymore effective now.
Much like our actual issue here over the obturation- what you say and how you say it is important. How you get perceived is part of that result, and that perception colors those around you- regardless of whether you believe it to be true or not.
I think it'd be awesome if we could get the information and conversation we need regarding RKBA without all the rest of the baggage. THR is great for that- most of the rest of the internet.......isn't.
Thats why a lot of folks gravitate here, and end up staying.
Why we'd send them back afield is beyond me, but thats WAY beyond the scope of this thread.
I'll apologize now for derailing it in that direction over a few grains of copper.
