Hi all,

Does any one know of an AL law that prohibts the carrying of a loaded long-gun in a vehicle? Also, would it matter if the long-gun was "concealed" or not?

I've looked over Sec. 13A-11-50 thru 13A-11-85 and can't find anything that would prohibit this. Several things mentioned concealing a pistol, specifically, but I didn't see anything regarding long-guns.

I'm a CCL holder, FYI.

I ask b/c I would like to carry a pump-shotty in my truck (none in chamber/several in tube).

Thanks.

It's legal. I carried an 870 in my truck while I was trying to get a Pistol Permit.

Thanks.

I checked with a friend of mine who is a state LEO, and he also was not aware of any law barring possession of a loaded long-gun in a vehicle.

Side note: anyone have a good 870 for sale? :D

In Colorado, the big deal for a long arm in a vehicle is having a round in the chamber.

I think it is A-OK to prohibit long arms with chambered rounds in vehicles. Most rifles and shotguns lack the passive/active firing pin safeties that most handguns possess.

I would be very bad to get into a crash and have your riot gun discharge as well.

NavyLT is correct. A loaded long gun is legal in a vehicle EXCEPT on a WMA! If you are found with one there you WILL be charged with illegal hunting(even if you have a WMA hunting permit and it is during the season). You can't even have a loaded long gun on a road or even leaning against your vehicle in a WMA.
