I have not seen many folks talk about their SD9VE...this seems good to me in perhaps one way, in that no one is reporting problems...I certainly am quite happy with mine.

If you have one of these "American Glocks" give out a shout and let us know how its working for you.

Mine has digested WWB JHPs and FMJs, ZQ1 Nato ball, Federal FMJs, and Rem FMJs and JHPs without any problems whatsoever. My total round count is at 500.

I know this gun is comparatively inexpensive to other 9mms, but personally I think it could be sold easily for more money and still enjoy brisk sales.

What do say? Good/Bad experience?

I have the same pistol in 40 s&w. I have used this firearm extensivly, over 5000 rounds, with very few problems. Most of the malfunctions were operator error. The trigger does take some getting used to.

I bought one for my grandson as a college graduation present and liked it so much that I bought one for myself. I did not need another 9mm but it was such a good value at $299 I could not pass it up. It eats everything I feed it and the trigger is just right as I measured it at 7.5lbs. You have to want to pull the trigger for that first shot, and I like it better than the 4-5lb triggers. It is light weight, holds 15 shots and a life-time warranty by an excellent company with very good customer service. It is for all of those reasons that make the SD9 one of S&W best sellers too.

gunlaw,
That's a goodly amount of rounds! Glad to hear it is holding up well.

snooperman,
Great gift for yourself and the grandson! What a nice guy. I really like the trigger and the more deliberate action needed to set off the weapon.

psyshack,
Well that's not the SD9VE....but close. Did you put a high polish on the slide?
That gun is one of the uncles to the pistol mentioned. Glad you like it!!

I know 5000+ is a decent amount of shooting but since it is my carry weapon I fire 50-100 rounds every trip to the range. It adds up pretty fast.

The 2nd and 3rd gen Sigmas are one of the most underrated pistols out there. There are not many guns in that price range that performs as well as those guns. The exception being the now discountinued Ruger P95.

I'm getting ready to buy one my self for $315 total here local. I'm going to use it for my full size carry gun and get a Shield in 9mm also.

gunlaw,
You must go to the range a good deal! :) I'm just happy to hear that it is holding up well to the amount of shooting you have put it though.

onward,
I agree with you the Sigmas were underrated and not bad pistols by any stretch. I love the P95s, great guns and can still be found if you look some. They are commanding a slightly higher price already and have just been dc'd for a short time.

gennro,
Not a bad deal. Here in Indianpolis at Gander Mtn. they are going for 379.00. I'm thinking about getting another and have one as my carry piece and one for home...alternate for the range. I train with what I carry...and it would always be nice to be a 2 fisted shooter if needed. :p

The only complaint I have is not of the pistol but the magazines. I have only been able to get the full 16 rounds into one of my mags and it really is tight. When chambering a round from the mag with the full 16 it is a slow chambering with significant resistance...so I'll just keep it at 15 until they break in.

Care to elaborate on how it sucked and what aspects of the gun were poorly designed?

Love them.

To me, if it is built close to a Glock, as reliable as a Glock, but more comfortable than a Glock...whats to dislike?

Oh, AND its cheaper, by alot. Its a hit outta the park for inexpensive service guns. I love em.

Im with you meanmrmustard, excellent value, better ergonomics imo than a Glock and hundreds less. Love them too! :)

I bought a Sigma 9mm back some years ago, thought it was a fine gun! So did a friend who I sold it to. His is still working fine. I went down to pick up another one and got the newer SD9VE. It is now one of my favorite carry guns! The older Sigma mag.s hold 17rds & fit the SD9VE! They get easier as you use them. I think this is one of the BEST BUYS OUT THERE! I would recommend this pistol without any reservations at all! The 'SWOCK ' as we used to call them is at the top of line! Try one & you will buy one! JMO. ;)

Now, don't get me wrong: The SW9VE is a fine weapon. Ergonomic, inexpensive, and very reliable.

It is, however, not in the same league as the SD9VE. The addition of stippled finger memory pads on the frame, a true Picatinny rail, better slide cocking serrations, AND most important, a much MUCH better trigger make the SD9VE a truly competitive alternative in a saturated market. Can't get an M&P, Glock, or XD? Fret not. S&W's SD9 is the answer.

SW9VE owners, please, no flame! Its just that the SW is the caveman, the SD is the Cro Magnon. Its all about evolution.

West K. You didn't elaborate on the problems you had with your gun. I would recommend sending it back to S&W . They have great C.S. and will fix the gun, if it hasn't been misused! I know 6 Sigmas or SD9VEs owners. Not one has had a issue with theirs. Some lemons get out by mistake. I would get in touch with S&W right away & resolve the issue! I know you will glad you did!

The gun I had was a jammomatic and was very inaccurate. I don't remember the specifics of why the design stuck out as being sub-par but I do remember getting that opinion while cleaning it after range trip#1 hoping I would find the cause of the stiff slide and stovepipe creator. Gun was relatively clean inside and range trips 2 and 3 went similarly with a variety of ammo. This gun was used when I got it and had been shot quite a bit so it wasn't simply getting it broke in either. That gun would not feed hollow points at all and round nosed fmj was even touch and go. I think out of the 300 or so rounds I put through it I got a string of 5 without jamming. Different mags didn't help, different ammo didn't help, and the guy who bought it had the same trouble and tried to get his money back. This was around 2010 and as I said the gun was well used but not abused. I think it was 2007 production if I remember correctly. To put it plainly, I have zero find memories of that gun othe than selling it to a guy at work who swore he would make it so nice I would beg to buy it back.

That's to bad, sounds like S&W let a lemon thru. It happens sometimes! I have had that problem also! I was looking at a D.A. revolver some years ago & was cut by the back plate! Brand new gun! Can't remember the company but it had a great reputation & had been around awhile. I bought 3 Taurus auto's before I gave up on them! But S&W is building good guns now days. I would recommend trying one out and taking a new look. I would bet you change your mind! I am seeing more of them & I'd say someone will let you shoot one! What do you got to lose!

Back when I was younger I helped train private security guards. Alot of these people were veterans and starting a new life. They didn't have alot of cash & could not afford a new top line gun, just as now days. I would recommend some good guns that they could afford. If I was still doing that job, I would recommend the SD9VE. It would be at the top of my list! It's affordable, reliable, accurate, well made & backed up by great C.S.! This gun can be updated without spending a fortune! Is very easy to shoot or learn on. And it's made in the U.S.A.! This is a great gun to carry & shoot. And when you do buy a new gun, you will still have a great house gun or B.U.G.! Just cannot say enough good things about this one!

West,
Bummer you had that problem...but that was not the SD9VE, you had an earlier version of the Sigma line, it sounds like. The pistol spoken of in this thread is a different beast.

That's the SW9VE. Different pistol, bro.

Also, S&W, when I owned mine third hand, did a sear polish and trigger job to "smooth" mine down to a mere 8 lbs.

Had it been mine, I'd have looked at that chamber. But, you say it's gone. No use keeping unimpressive firearms I suppose.
