I’ve got 5 more working days and i am off both job’s for 10 days. Ohio Rifle season baby!

Haven’t really had the motivation to hunt this year due to some medical issues and work. I took the next 3 days pto so i can load some 325gr FTX rounds for the Marlin 1895 and 240gr xtp for the 44mag Handi rifle. Still need to do a load workup of 777 FFG for my inline. I think I’m going to tote the handi rifle a little more this year. I’ve got my clothes and double bull blind airing out for the weekend and will set it up Sunday to be ready to roll November 27th. Still need to take the ceramic rod to the knives and get them razor sharp, charge flash lights and headlamps, and double check all 3 rifles and I’m ready.

I got my permission slip signed 2 days ago for my favorite spot. Its a strip of thick creek bottom that runs about 200yards wide and 1000 yards long with a crop field behind it. I always see deer in this area and a real nice buck 2yrs in a row that busts me (I’m sitting against a tree) and he bolts to not be seen the rest of the week.

I also got permission to hunt my buddies lease alone per the landowner but that was last year. Haven’t been able to check with him this year but my buddy says he’s sure they won’t have an issue with it. Been several shooters on camera and lots of doe.

I’m getting excited. When does your rifle season start and what’s your plan?

Ha! Ha! Around here, deer "rifle" season has been over for 3 weeks now. And seeing as how we didn't get one, our "plan" is to use what beef, pork and chicken we already have in the freezer.
On the other hand, elk "primitive weapons" (muzzle loader) season open up again for a couple of weeks in late December, and my wife has a cow elk tag. So, we might be eating elk meat along with beef, pork and chicken until deer season opens up again next fall.
At any rate, I'm glad you're getting to go hunting after all. I'm 75 years old, but I remember my working years, and kids in school years, when I couldn't always take off and go deer hunting. When I did, I felt like I'd been "set free" - at least for a little while. 😀

Indiana gun season starts tomorrow, I will be out using my 350 Legend AR shooting Winchester 180gr SP rounds.
They are deep into rut around here, I just haven't found the right spot to make connection with my crossbow.
I'm hoping that the extra hunters will put a push on them & get them coming my way.

Follow up:
About 8:00am I saw a lot of guys that have their deer down loading up & I was hoping that they would push some thing out to me because I can't walk very far anymore I have my ladder stand about 100 yds from the parking lot. As they pulled out I hear leaves rustling behind me. I stood up to turn around the tree to see a doe & fawn getting pushed by a small spike buck. I was going to shoot the buck but the doe was bigger & we have a lot of does in this area. So I took the doe as she ran under my stand. So I practiced & practiced to be able to take a shot between 100yd to 200yd & I get a 20ft shot, some years you just can't figure. I hit her in the back of the neck trying to do a head shot but she dropped instantly.

Florida's gun season opens on the 1st Saturday in November every year in my area. It is preceded by a muzzleloading season of one week's duration. However, it doesn't end until the third week in January. Florida doesn't have an abundance of deer like some states but we do have a long season with a limit of 5 deer/season. Other southern states have long seasons also.

Well opening day was a bust. 20mph winds and 30 degrees made for a miserable day. I got to the property at 630 and legal light was 7am. I snuck in or at least tried to because i forgot to cut all the honeysuckle and clear all the small twigs from my path. Wind was SSW which anything North is more ideal but they bed and come from the W so I figured I’d be ok. At the truck fighting my orange vest blowing around i got a little heated and slammed my truck door cause the dinging wouldn’t stop and coyotes fired up.

I sat on the ground until 11am when all of a sudden 2 blue jays started making all kinds of racket and a fox squirrel started barking. I hear splashing to my East on the other side of the hill and here comes 4 doe hauling rear end to the field and away they went. I figured a coyote was on them but nothing showed. I went home for lunch and headed to a different property from 230-530.

I climbed into a 30ft box blind overlooking a bedding area. After getting settled in a 4pt and 6pt came strolling through. Seeing how i cant bow hunt this year i thought about taking the 6pt but passed cause we have a few 120-150”+ out there. I hate being in the blind cause my view is limited but the wind calmed down and i heard running. Out came 2 of this years young and a beast of a momma. Momma wouldn’t stop for a shot so she got a pass too. I woke up today to 1-2” of snow and 11 degrees so decided to wait until this afternoon to head back out.

General Western Oregon deer season ended 1st Friday of November. Tag soup for me. However, my rifle cow elk season starts December 1st. I’m feeling hopeful. Good luck to you all!

SC has a very long season compared to others. In my zone archery only opens mid August and all forms of deer hunting are open September 1 - January 1.
