rather proud of that one.
You've been holding back!

My wife's Grandfather had one of those in Papua New Guinea.
Her brother has it now.
He probably carried an earlier '03 or an A4, as there is little or no photographic evidence that A3s saw combat with US troops in WW2- most were used in action by Allied troops such as the Free French and Nationalist Chinese.

So, I cheated a little bit in the photo, but darn it, my earlier Springfields are REALLY buried in the back of the armory, lol.

No, it was definitely an 03A3, Remington made, barrel dated 4-42. He was a tanker, so it might never have been fired in anger, but he took it home after the war and shot a lot of deer and bear with it. Sadly, he had it drilled and tapped for a scope in the 50's, so collector value is gone. It was supposed to go to my son, as he reminded my mother-in-law of her dad, but when my father-in-law died, my mother-in-law was (and still is) in a nursing home with Lewy Body Dementia, so she could not make her wishes known to my sister-in-law, who was executor for her dad, and POA for her mom. I took care of this gun for 20 years, it had sat in the back of a closet for g_d knows how long before I started dating my wife. I offered to take care of it, and I did take it out and shoot it a couple times with my son, and my son did get to deer hunt with it once. (didn't get one, didn't see any) This is the rifle:
