You know there are probably more different makes of guns in 22LR caliber than any other. I love the 22s and find myself facinated how accurate they shoot even though so many brands are made. If a person wanted to start collecting 22s which would you have if you could only have 5 guns (rifle) and 5 handguns.

My first love is the Mossberg 22s in rifles followed by
Browning auto
Browning lever
Remington 513T
Ruger 10/22

Handguns I like the diamondback
Colt peacemaker
Smith17
Colt Woodsman
Ruger MI

I got to buy more 22 ammo:D

Marlin 39
Remington Bolt one of several, I like tube feeds
CZ 452
Winchester 1890
One spendy target Winchester 52 or Anschutes, and one El Cheapo like a Glenfield 60
gosh just to many good ones to single out a short few

Ruger Single six three screw or
Colt frontier
Ruger MK III hunter or a browning auto
Contender
and again to many to choose

hmmm

Rifles:
10/22
Marlin 39
Insert Random Expensive Anschutz here
Marlin 100 (first rifle)
Seggern .22 silenced automatic

Pistols
Browning Buckmark
Kimber 1911 style converted to .22
Walther P22
Single Six
Hammerli target style auto

Marlin 39
CZ 452 Lux
Remington 34
Marlin 60
Remington 572

Ruger Mk II 5/12 bull barrel
Colt Woodsman
S&W K22
H&R top break
Ruger single six

.22's are a little like potatoe chips, you can't have just one..... or as in this case only 5. I own several and want several more. I love Marlins expecially the 39 but the 60 is just a great gun for the money. Rugers have always had a strong apeal to me, (love the 77/22) and there is nothing more fun to customize than the 10/22. The you have the little Brownings, just wonderful guns. How by the old winchesters? Or my old Remmy pump which is a dream to shoot, can't forget the old Nylon 66 or my old.... well this is going no where, I am NOT going to be able to narrow this down to 5, no way, no how!

CZguy, can I ask what a Remington 32 is? I own a 33 an am familiar with the 34 but a model 32 in rimfire is new to me.

I'm no so dead set on brands and models.

As long as they are reliable, accurate, and good looking I want these rifles:

A short single shot for the kids.

An inexpensive semi auto with a small scope for the truck/ plinking

A nice lever action for hunting with peep sights.

An extra-accurate semi auto "Ultimate" with a big scope and fancy stock for the range.

A real bench rest rifle setup to shoot ridiculous tiny groups.

For pistols:

A small framed D/A revolver suitable for training kids or beginner adults.

A S/A revolver with a swappable mag cyl and good sights for hunting/ plinking.

A 4" automatic with a red dot for whatever.

A long barrel automatic "Hunter" style. Maybe scoped, maybe not.

A serious competition worthy target pistol.

That ought to pretty much cover it.:)

Since this is the rifle forum, I'll keep it limited to just .22 rifles.

I don't think I'd need five. I could satisfy every need with a 10/22 set up for shooting Team Challenge, and an Anschutz 1907 or Super Match 1913.

And maybe one of those CZ flat top .22 LR AR uppers.

The nicest 22 rifle I've shot was a heavily customized 10/22 and as far as handguns are concerned, I've just taken delivery of a S&W mod 17 vintage '64 that I'm still trying to wear the newness off of

I am kind of partial to this one:

Then again, I made it ;)

My mistake, I meant to say Model 34. :uhoh:

If there was only one .22, then it would be my fathers single shot. I'm not sure of the make, but it has a trap door on top of the receiver that you slide the .22 through and the bolt has a fixed firing pin that resets with the recoil.

Its simple, accurate and THE best type of rifle/action to learn on.

favorite .22 rifle is an old stevens bolt action that was my fathers. IIRC it is a model 66 made before serial numbers were required and it has worn the same weaver scope for over 50 years. short, long, or long rifle. especially accurate with shorts or longs, a little less so with LRs. Also have granddads slide-action winchesters with octagon barrels in .22 long and .22wrf (".22 special"). both great shooters but I haven't had em out of the safe in years. (gosh just realized they are 100 years old!)
I love my buckmarks, great shooters, but they aren't as special as my 2 Colt woodsmans from 1947 and 48, a 4" and a 6" target.

See what I mean, there are just too many good little 22s. A person could buy 22s for a long time before they ran out of new to them guns. Aint it great LOL

I picked up a beat up and rusty Marlin M1 .22 Carbine recently for twenty bucks. They are going for $250 or better in NIB condition these days.
This one had been banged around in the trunk of a car or behind the seat of a truck for decades, the rear sight was missing and the front sight off kilter.
The exposed portion of the barrel was rusty and without any remaining bluing.

Since replacing the rear sight alone would cost three times what I've got in the gun and a total refinishing was in order, I chose to customise the gun to what I think it should have been when they first came out with it.

I've reshaped the stock, grip, and buttplate to to more closely mimic an early issue M1 stock, and replaced the barrel band with one I made from an old Mauser carbine upper band cut in half then trimmed down the front end of the handguard to fit in the little flange in a similar manner to the M1 Barrel band.

I've studied an M1 rear sight and front sight and I might be able to modify them to fit. As usual I'll wait till I find a damaged and discarded set of sights that I can get cheap.
This is a tube feed rather than a clip fed rifle so unless I add a dummy magazine that doubles as an ammo storage box it won't look exactly correct even from a distance.

As it is now the rifle is much lighter and quicker handling. When I make the cutout in the butt for the sling it will be even lighter and better balanced. I'll add a front sling swivel to the side of the band then.

The bore turned out to be perfect after a through cleaning and it functions flawlessly. Can't wait to see how it shoots.
I had the cheaper Glenfield carbine years ago and it printed one hole groups at 50 yards. They say that the short stiff barrels make the carbines more accurate than the longer barrel Marlin/Glenfields.

PS
After removing the remaining factory finish I found that the stock was highly figured flame grained walnut. Nicest piece of wood I've seen on a .22 in many years.

Although, like most people, I own 4 or 5 my favorite is a Remington 504 Target. Very accurate and a blast to shoot. If you want rippem' off then a 10/22 with a BMF activator.

Nice old rifles, I'd love to have one. My tube fed bolt is the newer 512 both nice guns made back when even 22 bolts had walnut stocks.
Everyone talks of the CZ 22's accuracy but I am not so sure these old Remingtons don't shoot just as well.
Easy CZ fans, I have 452 and love it too.
