Hey guys and gals,

I got to reminiscing some old times from when I started shooting and remembered shooting my Brother-in-Law's Remington 572 .22 pump rifle.

I remembered how accurate and fun that rifle was to shoot, and it got me thinking what other pump action .22s are there that are currently in production?

I looked on several gun manufacturers websites and all I can find are auto-loading and lever action .22s (with the exception of the Remington 572). Don't get me wrong, my first rifle was a Ruger 10/22 and I have always loved lever action rifles of all calibers.

I was just wanting to know if anyone besides Remington was making a pump and if so why aren't there more out there? Pump actions are just as fun as auto-loaders and in some aspects are easier (for accuracy) than levers because you don't have to readjust as much to chamber a new round.

I know there has to be some more pump aficionados out there than me or Remington wouldn't still be producing them.

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Yeah, I'd go with a 62. I've got an OLD Winchester that's still going strong. Get the round barrel, the octagons are heavy.

I like the 572 personally, ultra smooth, for me a near perfect LOP. Mine is a smoothbore so I can't really speak on accuracy other than to say it make wing shooting the big Cicada Killer wasps a breeze.

Not many folks remember the old Browning BPR

I've got two pumps that I love. About a year ago I scored a very nice early octagon barrel Remington Model 12 at a firearm swap meet. And a couple of months back I found a Rossi Win 62 clone. Both handle and shoot just great.

And sadly both are out of production. So to find one you're going to have to start haunting the usual places with firearms for sale.

The Remington came with a very early Tasco Rimfire scope on it One of the 3-7x ones. All metal and coated optics from back when "inexpensive" didn't have to mean "cheap".

Both are superbly smooth to cycle and shoot really nicely. And I agree with all your points about pump rifles. I'm truly surprised that pump action isn't more popular in a lot of calibers.

My first pump was a Savage 29 made in 1929. As old as it is, it still functions beautifully and is accurate.

The problem is it has spoiled me, and though I look at newer pumps I really don't think I could do better. I paid $300 from my smith.

I have a Rossi pump it is very accurate and fun to shoot. When I walk in the woods it is the gun that comes with me.

The prevalence of semi-auto 22's have sort of pushed the pumps actions out. But growing up in PA, the Remington 572 was very popular where as semi-auto rifles were not legal for use hunting. My first experience shooting a 22 rifle was with the 572. Great dependable rifle.

The Remington 12 series and the later 121 are excellent 22 rimfire rifles, there are quite to be had if you search a bit, there are plenty of repair parts available for these guns if you run into a fixer upper or basket case.

First I want to thank everyone for their responses. I will definitely have to look at the Henry's. The rossi's are not on their website. The 572 still looks like the best choice to me because I have so many fond memories of plinking with it.

Once again thanks to y'all.
