I have owned and enjoyed the following AK style semis:
Romanian CURII 5.45
SLR95
SLR101s
SGL31
Saiga 308 16"
RAA Vepr 21.5" 308
While the Saiga is more accurate Vepr had the best combination of Accuracy and finish. Which AK's have you had and which did you think was the best?

I like my Polish parts Vector Under-folder. Every bit as good as any Bulgarian gun.

Blows the pants off any Romanian gun. Seems a bit better than the Yugo M70's I've handled as well, but many shooters will say that's subjective.

Iv'e got a Saiga in x39 right now and love it. It's still in stock form, but when I'm done moving I'll be converting it with a nice Ironwood Design stock set, and all the other needed goodies. Only other thing I will track down is a Kobra red dot for it and then I think I'll have the next best thing that I can get short of a real full auto. One of those might be in teh works in the next 2 years or so as well :)

I love them all. THe Poly Tech Type 56 i have is surprisingly very accurate for an AK. I got 1.5 inch grp at 100 yds with Ulyanovsk HP , this on sandbag rest.

But like all things, I like all my AKs. SAR 1 , MAK 90 to the Bulgarian 5.45. They all shoot as good as the shooter. The most important thing is having adequate ammo to feed them all.

best combination of Accuracy and finish.

Don't get me wrong, because I'm a true sucker for polished and blued steal on hard wood furniture....

But in my estimation, plastic hardware is the natural and functionally appropriate evolution of the AK"

I have owned:

AK with Romanian parts built on an Armory USA receiver (purchased on gunbroker, not sure about the origin of the build)
Century WASR
Norinco MAK-90
K-Var Arsenal SGL-21

Both Romanians have since been sold or traded. The SGL-21 is still my favorite.

a russian vepr- 7.62x51,101s arsenal-7.62x39, egyption maadi 7.62x39, east german rebuild 7.62x39. all are very good shooters, but the vepr and arsenal 101s are the most accurate. eastbank.

Listed in order of overall fit/finish/quality

Henderson Defence Industries AK-101 (Rommy G build)
TGI AMD-65
CAI Draco

One time I took my old SLR101S and took a sitting position at a large buffalo sillouette which was about 400 yds away. I proceeded to shoot away on that thing for a good 15 minutes and I was hooked on AK's after that. Slick little rifle.
