I have been looking at getting a Saiga .308 partially because I like the .308 cartridge and wanted a low-priced assault-style carbine/rifle chambered in that round that would be reliable. However, I don't know much about the guns. I've just read in another post that there are 20 round mags available for these rifles, no longer limiting them to the 8 or 10 round mags previously available. But how accurate are these rifles, and at what ranges? Basically, I'd probably be satisfied with being able to hit a pie plate consistently at 100 yds, but being able to be that accurate up to 300yds or so would be even better. Also, are they AK-reliable? I'd like to make a decision on getting one of these before the availability dries up or some stupid ban law is imposed on us...AGAIN.
Also, I've been looking at AKs. Two nice ones I've liked are the AMD-65 and the Yugo underfolder. I may not be able to afford Arsenal, Vepr, or Vector any time soon, so these are the best of the lot I've seen so far. The romanian Wasr bunch ain't bad, but they're not as nice as the two I mentioned above. The only bad thing about 7.62x39 right now is it still isn't as readily available as .308, and it's not inherently as accurate. But my question on the AKs: are the AMD and Yugo pretty good for the money? I've seen them in the $469-$575 range. I have to admit, with the solid side folding stock, muzzle brake, and forward grip, the AMD is SWEET lookin'.
