Let's talk camp guns

Henry All Weather 357 or 44 would be my top pick.
The 10mm carbine is another good pick. I know the CMMG is the latest and greates here, but even the Hi-Point version is worth looking at as they have been rated pretty well.

My definition of "camp rifle" seems to be a little different than most here.

I don't carry it anywhere. It hangs by a simple sling on a hook or is leaning against a wall in the corner. It might get very hot, it might be very cold for long periods. It is not ever cased. Its magazine is always loaded. It might not get shot for years. It might get wet. It will get dirty. It might bounce around for a long time in a truck or on a horse or dirtbike or quad. Ammunition is easily available. Can be cleaned with a knotted shoelace soaked in gasoline and lubed with a dipstick. It HAS to work when needed.

Synthetic stock, iron sighted, short barreled, spray and bake paint job, simple bolt action unaffected by dirt or moisture, inexpensive, in a caliber that can back up asking the bear to please get out of the cook tent.

For me that is an older push feed Winchester 70, or Remington 721 ect.. in preferably 30-06. Old bubbaed Mausers, 1903s, M1917s, Arasakas, Mosins, or Lee Enfields that have proven themselves dead nut reliable but ugly as sin and meet the above criteria also qualify.

A totally utilitarian tool that you are not afraid to ride hard and put away wet. Very similar to a "camp" axe or shovel and treated the same.

With mention of the “B” word, I immediately think Marlin GuideGun with something like a Leupold 1-4x illuminated reticle in .45/70.
Otherwise, a M336 in .35Rem.

The .30-30 is uniquely suited to the listed tasks. I'm not a fan of a bear stopping rifle (as opposed to a bear hunting rifle used at distance) in less than .308 or on a micro case. So the options are really .308Win and .30-30. .30-30 make for a lot more nice, smaller guns. A 94AE or .336 will allow an optic if desired.

The Federal 170gr partition load would be comforting in the event of a bear encounter, and I'm sure it punches holes in tweakers just fine too.

If you'e got potential grizzlies then something beefier is called for, but your low recoil requirement is going to be tested.
