Found a NIB Winchester 94 Legacy rifle, in 30-30.
Came with this tang site installed.
Can anyone brief me on it's general use before I start turning things? Guessing the rear leaf sight will need to go?

Tang sights work well, & are far more accurate than the usual factory open, barrel mounted rear sight.

With my tangs, I haven't had to remove the rear open sight, just set it to its lowest setting then zeroed the tang. The closest I've been to your .30-30 is a .38-55 considering recoil. I also have tangs mounted on a .38-40, .32-20, & .25-20. Best regards, Rod

I have a Marbles tang sight on my 1873; it adjusts for both windage (left/ right) and elevation (up/ down). The windage has click motion as does the elevation peep that has a locking ring on the adjustment post.
If you want to move your bullet impact left, your tang sight should adjust left; right for right. Move your peep up to raise impact and down to lower.
Access Google for everything you ever wanted to know (and then some) about tang sights - tons of info. Then go shoot and adjust as needed..

On my '73 the rear sight was in the way. I tapped it out and got a dovetail blank from Midway.

The photo appears to be of a Marbles brand - exactly like mine. It doesn’t surprise me, all of my current Winchester levers came with Marbles front sights from the factory.

Not necessarily - not unless the rear leaf sight interferes with using the aperture tang sight. My Shiloh Sharps .45-110 has a tang aperture sight as well as a "ladder" type rear leaf sight.
However, a closer comparison is my wife's Winchester 94 32 Special that has both a aperture tang sight and a rear leaf sight. She uses one or the other (depending on what she feels like that day, I guess), but she shoots a lot straighter with the aperture tang sight.;)

I bought a marbles folding rear sight, similar to what older Marlins have, blade folds right down and isnt in the way, i also ended up with a hadley eye cup, it has different size sight apertures for differing light conditions.

If it works with buckhorn in place it can be left. I usually put a sight blank in. If I can see the rear sight when looking through the aperture it drives me bat crap crazy.

Also agree that it is likely a Marbles. You can see a good picture on their website.

You will likely want larger apertures. Usually the ones supplied are so small they are only useful on sunny days.

i use them on my 1892 winchesters, i sight the open sights on a 75 yards and the tang sight 125 yards, works well with the 38-40,44-40.

Those seem very interesting- but don't they get in the way of your firing hand?
While they’re really nice to sight through, I’ve never really liked the tang sights for that reason. The peep sights I have on a few lever guns are all mounted on the receivers.

Stay safe.

I remove the buckhorn sight. I don't want anything to be a distraction to my sight picture. I am inaccurate enough with a good picture as it is. I have two rifles with them and don't have a grip problem with either. I could see one with big hands but mine are medium sized according to the American glove size chart.

It depends on the stock and the mounting. Most of my rifles with tang sights pose no issue. When I had the Marble on this rifle it sat back a little more and I laid my thumb along side of it. I’ve read that that’s more conducive for better accuracy anyway. YMMV.

BTW; It’s not NIB if it’s had a Receiver or tang sight installed.
As New, w/box is the description.

My Legacy.45LC looks 99% the same, but wears a Williams 5D rear sight.
I have previously removed the rear and installed a blank. Rear sight has been replaced, however.
I’ve retained blank for future use.

I also have a M94 carbine XTR that’s just as pretty! Alas, no box! Bought used...
Too pretty to hunt with. It’s a favorite range toy! It wears a Williams Sourdough.
Either will hurt a bolt action shooters feelings! They’re near MOA when I have a good day!

I do thumb over on my 73 with Marbles. Doesn't change grip for me at all. OP, you lucked out with a Marbles installed.

I'm pretty sure the color case legacy's had them included.
I bought a 38-55, color case, with the tang sight when they came out. When the factory closed in New Haven, I foolishly sold it.
This is the same rifle as the 38-55.
