Light loads and accuracy

I worked up a load for my .308 AR. I tried every weight of bullet from 130 Grn. - 180 Grn. And I used Varget and H335 from lowest to highest powder load. The out come was it shoots best with 42.5 grains of Varget and 180 grain Hornady SST, using CCI primers and Winchester brass. It shoots 1 MOA which is ok for hunting, wish it were better. My concern is at roughly 2400 fps at muzzle will there be enough velocity to expand the bullet out to 300 yards? I hunt Wisconsin white-tails and 300 yards is about max. I would like more speed, but the gun doesn't like it. I know 180 grn. bullets are over kill for whitetail, but I'm all over the target with 150 grn. and lighter. Is there something I'm over looking to try? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Some barrels are picky and just want what they want. A 180 has about the maximum bearing surface maybe that's part of it. Varget is a very good accuracy powder, but I can't say the same for h335. Maybe a 150 Sierra spire point and im4895 might produce better results. I think extruded produces the best results. Have you tried a precision extruded powder that a little faster with the lighter bullets. Lots of good options: benchmark, 8208xbr, imr 4895, accurate 2495 and more.
