i have a mossberg 500 that is my main HD weapon. i keep it loaded, with a sling but i need to put a light on it as well as a strap on shell holder. any recommendations for a ligth mount and shell holder (not sure what its called, looks like a cheek rest with a way to hold 6 to 8 rounds).
thanks

I literally this weekend just made some upgrades to my Remington 870 that sound similar to what you're after for your Mossberg. A local dealer helped me select:

1. A CAA (Command Arms Accessories) model SGR1 Shotgun Rail Adaptor, which is basically a screw-on Picatinny rail that I mounted on the left side of the 870's barrel just ahead of the front-end of the slide (www.commandarms.com).
2. A Surefire model M79 Flashlight Mount (www.surefire.com); clamps securely around a Surefire or other 1" diameter flashlight.
3. A Surefire model 6P-LED flashlight in black...classic handheld light with lockout tailcap, etc., powered by two 123 lithium batteries.

I could have (and may later) add a pressure-switch to the light, but off-the-cuff I wasn't sure how/where to mount that given the slide-action nature of the shotgun. Total retail on the above was about $200.

I also purchased separately a black elastic buttstock shell holder that holds five shells. I also have a sling mounted, and it was a bit of a stretch to fit that shell holder over the rear sling swivel mounting point on the 870's synthetic stock. This item cost a mere $3.50!

While this all looks great and feels super-solid, I'll be "proving" it my next trip to the range.

Not being very Web-proficient, I haven't mastered posting online pics, but I could email you some if you'd PM me with your email address.

Hope this helps!

I have a Moss 500 to which I attached one of those plastic m4-style flashhiders (cheesy I know, but its mounted flush as it should be and is barely noticible) However, it does have an inch or so of rails, to which I attached a surefire 6p in a VTAC mount. I added a pressure switch tail cap, and attached that with velcro to the forend. The wire is long enought to cycle the action, but does not hang out far enought to snag on anything. Works like a charm, and for under 100 bucks.

I once had a trirail rail mount on both the moss and 870. It worked ok for a while. Then it got heavy.

Both guns are recieving a rail on thier recievers that will accept a light mounted there.

Not to mention removing 10 pounds of useless mass.

Fab makes a foreend for the 500 with rails,

Fenix makes some pretty good lights for the price!

If you are handy you can add a piece of picatinny rail to a foreend yourself....I like the Houge foreends so that's what I did.

Mr. Lapin turned me onto this little device. Wonderfully inexpensive and all you need is the TLR1 and you're good to go.
