I know it sounds stupid, right? Maybe I should rephrase it in different words...

I probably have 25 powders on hand, maybe even more. With that said, I am looking to make life simpler. I love to load up and shoot light, reduced loads, handgun and rifle. It doesn't always work out like that, but that's what I like to do, minus say my best animal harvester.

Anyway, whatever, H4895 has one of these formulas.

What powders can you reduce safely? For example, I know for sure 2400 can be reduced from 357 mag to 38 special and you still get the flash and it has some fun properties in rifles too. hehe. Another fun one is Unique in 357 and in my 30-30, but I suppose that is another topic.

I am not looking for load data, just what has a simpler powder/pressure curve.

Let's talk and list them out. I know for sure, every time I run to the desert, I wish I had a reduced load, whether from my wife complaining or my son, or my shoulder stating too much fun...

The only powder I am aware of that you can reduce for great light loads is exactly what you linked to. Well at least as far as published data which is reliable anyway.

There is too much in you question to post a accurate reply.

It would have to be narrowed down to handgun and rifle loads. Plus what calibers and bullet weights.

There is no "general" rule or powders for all things

Trail Boss is a good powder for reduced loads and if you follow their guidelines you can load virtually any caliber with it.

I have a link to using handgun powders in lever action rifles with lead bullets that give reduced loads in those.

For handguns, you need to be very careful as a reduced load can be as bad or worse (squib) as a over charge

Reduced loads are given as the start load of the powder, for some people the speed of the powder burn (fast or slow) can have a perceived difference in "felt" recoil.

So if you can narrow down you request maybe it will be easier to come up with some answers.

For handguns, most of the powders that burn faster than 4227 can be downloaded. The big question then is: by how much? Only way I know of finding out is by watching the chronograph for velocity changes that change suddenly. Of course, a bullet that doesn't exit the barrel will show a sudden drop in velocity.

One fast powder that I would not reduce is Titegroup. It's already spike-prone.

I know, I have only ruled out a few powders. :D

Somebody once characterized H4895 as "the rifle version of Unique", and I've found that to be a good description.

None of them are linear. It will take some amount of charge to get the bullet out of the barrel (past 0 fps), then it will appear near linear for a bit then, if it is not too bulky, speed increase will slow down vs charge weight until something fails (kaboom, again 0 fps)..
