mounted the 3x malcom on my little sharps 44-40 and was shooting it last week end, the 3x malcom was trying to sight in,the adjustments are rather crude. but after fiddleing with it, i got it on the paper at 50 yds. it groups rather well at 50yds,now i have to sight it in for 75 yds for hunting. the load was 200gr hard cast bullet and 10grs unique powder. eastbank.

That is a beautiful set-up....making quite a string top center on the target. Those deer oughta be scared.

How was the recoil? i'd be interested to see how that scope does over time.

DESIDOG, recoil is not to bad, nothing that would hurt you. i hope the scope holds up, i paid close to 300.00 for it. the eye relief is very good, field of view is small, the scope is clear. the only bitch i have is the adjustments are crude and are not anywhere near a unertl or super target spot lyman, but then again they are made like a old time malcom scope of that era. KERNEL, i have tried 2400,4227(alot of unburnt powder) ,unique is a little sooty. but i have not tried trailboss yet.

here are three close ups of the little sharps,it weights alittle over 6lbs. the peep sight shoots very good to,but the scope helps me to shoot alittle farther at smaller targets. i heard some one got one in 45 colt and had it rechambered to 454 casel and worked up loads that were just under 45-70 ballistic,s safely with .452 dia 270-300gr bullets, i think that would be a dandy carry rifle, tho it would kick like blue blazes eastbank.

I mounted one on a Marlin 1895 Cowboy, 45-70 and agree with your comments about adjustments.

HI-LUX? I have a 18" 6x on a 45-70 sharps, the adjustments are funky, I have mine mounted with a side mount and the rear mount was not made correctly eg. the holes are not in the proper location. When I first mounted it, it shot 3 feet high with the adjustment as low as it would go. I contacted HI-LUX and they were very negative in their responce. I sent them pictures that showed the scope lower in the front than the rear by 1/4 inch. They finally stopped even trying to work with me.With the mounts and scope I had a nonrefundable $300.00 scope.
I finally resolved the problem by elongating the bottom mount hole on the rear mount so it would sit almost on top of the receiver.
It now shoots right on @100 yds.I constantly check the adjustment screws to make sure they are tight otherwise they jar loose.
I noticed the pictures posted that the brand logo is pointed to the 3 oclock location, any reason why? I have mine @ 12 oclock. I also have my adjustment mount in the front mounting block, seems to be better than in the rear.

Leapfrog: While I have seldom read anything good about the mounts for the Communist Chinese "Malcolm", putting the adjustable mount in front might have contributed to your problem.

I have read of people putting the Leatherwood scope in MVA or KZ mounts but by then you had just as well pay for the complete MVA scope rig.

Reversing it was actually recomended by HI-LUX, but then again they said to bring the front of the scope up to "put a thin shim under the front mount" but there is a difference between thin and 1/4 inch. But it works good with the hole mod. Going through searches on the net you can actually find pics of both locations.
