Loaded guns in a safe?

So what happens if your house catches fire and your safe is full of loaded guns? Would you like to be a fireman at that scene?

Loaded vs. chambered. If the mags are loaded, there's not much to worry about except the fire itself. A chambered round could, I suppose, cook-off. I suppose also, that by the time the inside temperature of the safe gets that high, your house is a total loss anyhow. Probably all the firefighters could do is let it burn. The key is to get you and yours outside.

Any decent quality safe should be bullet proof if somehow a pistol went off inside it. The exception might be a very powerful rifle but if you think about it long guns only fit into common gun safes muzzle up. Good safed are also supposed to protect their contents from a house fire.

Haven't seen one yet that has protected the guns inside them from some kind of damage. Especially if the firefighters are liberal in their water application. Of the four residential fires that involved a gunsafe that I have seen, all but one safe had all the contents at least partially damaged; most completely ruined and what I would consider a total loss.

Ha! I have one of those. You don't want to break into my safe.
To keep on topic, currently only the Government Model in there is loaded. Used to keep all the handguns (except the .22's) loaded and ready to go. Not sure why I don't anymore. My carry/nightstand G19 is obviously loaded and chambered. I don't think it's ever seen the inside of the safe. Couple J frames loaded up around (no kids in the house.) My bedroom Mossberg 500 is "cruiser ready" whether in the safe or not.

The rifles & shotguns in the safe are all unloaded, though I have some magazines for the M&P 15 loaded up. Also have all 15 of my en blocs for the M1 loaded in a cartridge belt and bandolier. Just in case the Axis powers rise up again. Really this is just to save time when taking them out to shoot.

HD and carry gun stay loaded in the safe when they are not being used so i'm not constantly administratively unloading and loading the weapons.
