I just purchased 3 Acres in Reddick Florida ( Marion County ) and am interested in local gun laws. I have a small hangun and would like to practice firing it. It is hard for me to interprit whether it is, or not legal to do so ( Local govt. vs State govt. etc. ). HELP ?

IMHO, what's legal and what's prudent are very often in conflict. I live on 2 acres with another two undeveloped to one side. All other plots are lived on. I hesitate to even use a .177 air rifle on my property. In fact, I've yet to discharge any firearm there... not even the pellet gun. My neighbors? Well, that's a different story.

IIRC, if it's within city limits, it's usually illegal to fire a weapon. Even if it is legal, make sure you have a good backstop and that you're firing in a direction where there are no other people for a mile or two.

I wouldn't worry about something like an air rifle. Again, backstop and knowing your target.

Contact a local LEO and ask for info. Check out city?, county, and state laws. Shooting on your own property should not be a problem as long as there is no criminal activity involved. You may not shoot past your property line unless you have the other land-owners permission. You may not shoot across public roads or into buildings(homes, barns,?other structures). I'm not sure about shooting targets but if someone thinks you're hunting, you(your gun and bullet impacts) have to be 500 feet or more from roads, buildings, or others property. best-o-luck

IIRC if your outside city limits, you have to be at least 1000ft from any other residence or building etc. Make sure you have proper backstop and also you do not bother anyone around you with the noise of your firearms.

For a more concise ruling, I'd suggest looking into the City or County laws just to be safe

Thanks all....

Your information has been very useful and yes safety is of utmost concern to me.
