Locally the ammo shortage seems over IMHO

Locally the last thing to reappear and stay on the LGS shelves in any good quantity was 22 WMR. In the last few weeks there has been an abundance of boxes, of many brands/types of them, on almost every LGS/big box store shelf that carries any amount of popular ammo. That is also about the time that the last three box limit on ammo sales was lifted at the local WM. It may have been a different type of ammo for you but when did you see that things were back to normal at your location. Inquiring minds and all that you know.:)

I've considered it over for at least a year here, and if I wanted to drive the 50 minutes to Cabela's I could find anything I wanted 18 months ago.

The exception is Walmart, they still never have .22lr on the shelves.

^^ As above. Haven't had a problem in a few years, though .22LR wasn't on shelves constantly until maybe mid-2016, and then, only at Bass Pro and the local gun "showroom" I frequent. Even bought a 200-ct "Choot 'Em" box of .22WMR a week or so back, one of a stack of them they had there at BPS.

It’s been over here in Madison for some time. Walmart and Fleet Farm have shelves choked with 22 ammo. Production has finally overcome demand.

No problems around here.....All kinds of rimfire stuff has been readily available for probably a year now so I figured the hoarders have quit hoarding. In the last year it has been nice to see the prices coming down from some of the panic buying highs, although they still haven't reached the pre-panic levels.

The post-Sandy Hook ammo shortage ended about 3 years ago. Or are you talking about the attempt by some to create another panic after the recent Stoneman Douglas School shooting?

No issues in Ohio either. Cabela's, dicks, larger mom and pop stores all have it. I found 555rd bricks for $25. I bet those guys who paid $75-555 bricks feel pretty dumb!

I can't remember the last time I bought ammunition in a store. We buy ours online and haven't had any problem finding anything for at least 2 years

Ammo shortage? What ammo shortage? I also buy much of my stuff online and haven't had any problems for the past couple years myself.

Even my local Wal-Marts have plenty of .22, 9mm, .45 ACP and .223/5.56 whenever I've strolled through.

Well the regular center fire stuff was back for a year or more but the .22 has only been back and staying on the shelf for about 2 months in WM. The real thing was this was the first time that WM had .22 MAG that stayed on the shelf. Yeah I could have got it on line for a while now but had to add in the shipping. For a couple boxes of CCI .22 mag? I figured I would just wait it out.:) Also the FED .22LR 550 and the CCI .22 MAG were within 1$ of pre panic prices when purchased now there. Guess we are at the end of the ammo pipeline or something.

I’m not sure .22mag stays on the shelves locally (southern Ga) yet. I need to look around.

But .22lr is plentiful at about 5 to 6 cents per round. I’m stocked up in all calibers because the only constant in this world is change.

November elections are just around the corner. I would not get all that comfortable with the status quo.

That attitude is what caused the ridiculous shortage we have just come out of. There was no threat. It was all imaginary. First of all antis have bigger fish to fry than ammo. Second under Obama there was absolutely no inclination among Democrats to go after ammo. Scare talk just hurts US. Totally counter-productive.

Until the next mass shooting that happens when a president that does not respect the 2A is in office ...

No, you are wrong. There is no effort to control ammo period. Not to speak of anyway. The problem comes from the knee jerk fear by gun guys. If we all stay cool, there won’t be a problem, mass shooting or not.

yes, there will be a buying panic because of the PERCEIVED potential crackdown on ammo sales ... same with gun sales. That's what happened in the last shortage. There were no laws passed or other attempts at restriction, it was purely a buying panic.

Right, but we don’t have to contribute to it. I’m not saying don’t buy the ammo you need to feel well supplied. I’m saying don’t post scare messages. You just make it worse. Do what you have to do, but don’t drag everyone else along with you. That is counter-productive and self-defeating.

I'm not saying to contribute to it, I'm just saying there likely will be another shortage and the likely reason will be the reasons I stated. I, fortunately, started stockpiling well before the last shortage and generally only shoot as much as I can replenish thus preserving an adequate stock.

The selection of 22 LR still isn't great in this area and what you find is rather high priced except for Walmart and their selection is very slim. There seems to be plenty of centerfire everywhere and I've even seen a little 22 WRM on the shelves.

Come on down to Houston. There is so much .22 LR you almost can’t walk in the Academy. It’s everywhere. Well... plenty anyway.

It has only been within the last 6-8 months that the local WalMart has had regular supplies of .22LR ammo. Because of the prices they were charging, despite being much better than 7-8 years ago, are still higher than I am willing to pay.
Part of the reason is that Gander Mountain opened their first store (closed last summer) in this area and had some decent prices on .22LR for the grand opening. One month later, the WM store closest to GM had some .22 ammo at a better price than GM but with limited quantities. About a year ago, Academy opened about 200 yds. from this same WM with .22 prices between GM's and WM's. As I don't get to shoot as much as I would like to, the ~5K rounds I have now will last me a while.

You know something just dawned on me with the whole Walmart ammo thing. My Walmart used to have a case about 15ft+ long and about 4 shelves deep of ammo. Now its about 3ft and 3 shelves and rarely stocked. I'm guessing Walmart doesn't want to pay to staff the counter so they are slowly doing away with it. They also do not get ammo in on pallets. My buddy used to run the stores back room and said you could get 3 boxes of 9mm mixed in with a pallet of groceries. We also have several Walmart's that completely removed the counter with knives, ammo and guns and now its a metal and glass cabinet mixed with ammo and knives. I was tradition on open day of pheasant for us to hit Walmart the morning of at 6am and purchase a license and box of shells. Now i purchase my license online and shells when i grocery shop because you have to scour the store for help.
