A recent thread here on longer range handgunning made me realize I have been slacking on my long range handgun practice. So I went to the range today to get a little practice in and I decided to make a short video about it.

Target today was at 234 yards. Glock 17 with a type 2 RMR. Ammo was Winchester Super X 147 grain. In the video I score 5 hits out of 17 shots. No my best performance but not bad for someone still experiencing some flu residuals.

Note... a good red dot makes this much easier than with irons.

I find long range handgun shooting to not only be a lot of fun, but also a confidence boost for shooters. All the time I hear people say that anything past 25 yards is out of handgun range and it isnt. Once these guys try some actual distance shooting with handguns they find the closer distances far less intimidating.

The best part of living near a desert is how far you can shoot!

I had my 19MOS out two weeks ago was shooting out to about 130 yards. Once you figure out the elevation, it is pretty easy to get regular hits.

At one time I had a gong at 90-100 yards. I could hit it reliably with my Colt Mustang 380 ACP.

Even with a larger pistol and faster rounds, I could not reliably hit the target under rapid fire conditions.

I like my Glock 17 as a range toy, but I will not carry it on a regular basis.

My H&K P30SK V3 fits my needs for a carry pistol.

I have not shot my pistols out past 100 yards. I do enjoy shooting them out to 100 yards. Here lately it has been mostly with my 22lr pistols and red dots on them shooting at clay birds. With the 22lr pistols, I don't have to any hold over until I get to about 70-75 yards and farther. I mostly use my S&W 22A, 4.5" AR22 and Kel-Tec CP33 for shooting out to 100 yards. I will occasionally shoot out to 85 yards with my Glock G44. But I don't always get one shot hits on clay birds with it since it has iron sights only. One shot hits with the others is pretty easy out to 100 yards.

I use to have fun going to the range and making 2 liter bottles dance at 100 yards with my little Start Firestar M40 (40 S&W).
